Try using Kopper King as the pollen parent.
Hibiscus (generally) do not cross outside their section. When they do, sometimes you have to find the right combination. For example Hibiscus moscheutos will cross with Hibiscus mutabilis, but only if H. mutabilis is the pod parent.

Pics from the past week...

This cutting of Chinese evergreen (Aglaonema modestum) was cut & put in ground about 3-4 months ago. It's making a ton of new branches.

Angel trumpet (Brugmansia) that was started as a cutting that I got in trade in October, and is also being ground layered. One branch was bent to the ground and a brick laid on it to maintain contact with soil.

Air-layering a 25+ year old fiddle leaf ficus tree.

The first photo is the air-layered branch with roots and the second shows the branch staying green and healthy throughout the air-layering period. You should not see leaf die-back when the proper technique is used. Seven branches were air-layered and they all look similar to these three. I will cut all seven branches off today and pot them up in 1 gal. pots.

This part of the forum is fun to read! I've never propogated anything, but this year I was blessed to receive some seeds of a variety of plants (from honeysuckle to daylily and beyond). I'm giving it my best shot, and the seeds are responding so far. Cuttings and air-layering is something I've never considered! Keep talking...I'll keep reading! Thumbs up

Gosh, no, Brenden. I would have to have facilities dedicated to that, and sterile, laboratory conditions to pollinate orchids and ferns. Well with ferns, they don't seed, so now we are dealing with spores.

Teresa, my wrapping is really hi-tech, Saran Wrap. I am a pretty simple guy when it comes to propagating plants. My biggest expense (other than time) is the rooting hormone.

Please re-phrase that again for me, Brenden. I am old and not all that sharp, though age is not necessarily the reason for that. I was never all that sharp. *Blush*
