I must be tired...where is the data base? I actually found out over on facebook that it has been created! Can't wait to see it. I'm going hunting...if I'm not back soon, send someone out to get me.

Becky, it confused us planners at first, too... Look at the tabs at the top of the page. See the word "Plants" ? That's the database!

There should be an option for landscape and/or greenhouse under uses. At this point bromeliads don't fit into many areas of the various questions.

Fred, it's not difficult for us to add fields like this.

I'm not sure what "landscape and/or greenhouse" means, though. Confused

Cool! How easy to add a plant pic and descriptions. Priceless!

Dave, I added a pic of cuttings (Gardenia Frostproof) but wasn't quite sure which category of pic to check...leaves(?), first true leaves (that category will be used for "from seed only"), whole plant (not quite whole yet) so chose "leaves" as the best choice. Any idea in the future for "cuttings" or "tip cuttings" or maybe we can just include that info in the description, eh?

Well the question is asked about uses of a particular plant. You don't use an orchid as a landscape plant but in tropical or subtropical areas you would have choices for various other plants that others in cooler climate don't have. Their bromeliads have to be kept in pots and in greenhouses. Here in SW FL i use them in my landscape design. So the choice for plants of a tropical nature can be one or the other or both.

This shows plants in use in a landscape scenario:

up north these plants could also be in somebody's living room or a greenhouse. The dilemma then is use depends on location. There is no place I can check a small bromeliad except as a houseplant among the following list:Windbreak or Hedge
Provides winter interest
Erosion control
Guardian plant
Groundcover
Shade Tree
Street Tree
Flowering Tree
Water gardens
Culinary Herb
Medicinal Herb
Vegetable
Cut Flower
Dried Flower
Attracts Bees
Attracts Birds
Attracts Butterflies
Attracts Hummingbirds

I just took a peek and it looks great. What will be even better will be watching it grow to it's full potential over time as new entries are made.

OK, what am I missing here?

If I search for a plant, and it comes up, I get a list of choices. For my example, I picked Geranium Rozanne.
>I search the name, and I get a photo that I just submitted. an hour ago. It's "clickable" and shows under it a comment that I also added.

But how do I get to existing information that other people have submitted? General info on the plant? hardiness, etc? Any other pictures? Maybe mine is currently the only photo, but since the plant already existed in the database, shouldn't I be seeing something else somewhere?

Another example:
>I search verbena homestead purple. I get a list of cultivars of verbena canadensis , homestead purple at the top. If I click on it, a photo is there that I submitted within the past hour, along with a list of common names for verbena, none of them "clickable". So how do I get to the "meat" of the entry on verbena homestead purple- things like type of plant (annual, perennial, shrub, ect?), hardiness zones,

I must be missing something here...

Karen, you're not missing anything, it's just that nobody has come along and entered those details yet. Most plants are empty of information and that's where the fun is for some of us. We can go through and enter those details ourselves (and earn acorns along the way).

When you have a plant that is missing information, scroll to the bottom and click on "Propose changes to the details about this plant"

It's a pretty easy to use system. You just check off the details that are accurate for that plant, and then save the page. A moderator (or me) will then review and approve it and you get the acorn and the plant then has all the details for the next visitor to see.

Thanks, Dave. "Propose Changes" didn't seem logical when I couldn't see that anything existed to change.

I must be dense.... I just added some information and pictures to a few Plumeria but when I do a search and click on the listing I can't see anything. Does it take time to get approved maybe?

Dave, is there a plan to add a zip code field and one for comments/reviews? I always find those both extremely helpful when I'm considering plants or have already succumbed and need to figure out where to put them.

Dave would it be possible to have the check box lists in alphabetical order? It's much faster to find what one is wanting to check if it's set up this way.
