I'm involved with bromeliad collectors all over the world via various Facebook groups and LOCATION in a plant DB is just as important as in real estate. Something more then zip code is needed. We have hardiness zones which tells where a plant can grow outside but then there are greenhouses and other protected sites that can come into play. Maybe a country ID next to hardiness?

Wow! The plant database is coming along and looking awesome. It seems easy to navigate too. Thumbs up

Okay, so if I have this correct, it is okay for us to go in and add information and photos?

This is very exciting. Big Grin

I added a bunch of images and didn't see them yet in the unapproved queue. Does it take a while to show up in the unapproved queue too? Or did I mess up? I kinda thought those would be shoved in that queue right away since they're not yet approved.

tabby, last I looked there were quite a few pages in the photo queue so maybe yours was on one of the other pages or something.

Christine, I've started adding a few things so yes, jump on in. Have fun!

I found them. The images aren't necessarily shown in the queue in the order they are entered. The top of the queue kept looking the same as before I entered anything even after refresh, so I thought they weren't getting added. It turns out they were put straight away on page 2. Now I know that, I'm happy.

You can leave comments right now.

As for regional/zip code fields, yes, that is planned. Just not in right yet. Smiling

Dutchlady1 said:I must be dense.... I just added some information and pictures to a few Plumeria but when I do a search and click on the listing I can't see anything. Does it take time to get approved maybe?

I've been out in town all day, but I've approved everything except daylilies, irises and sempervivum entries, which I left for the moderators of those plants to approve.

Mindy03 said:Dave would it be possible to have the check box lists in alphabetical order? It's much faster to find what one is wanting to check if it's set up this way.

We can re-order the checkboxes anyway we like and it's easy for me to change that. I think alphabetical does make good sense. I'll be looking at the order of the checkboxes soon.

Not sure if this is the best place to ask this, but... when searching alphabetically through the genus and cultivar fields, would it be possible to refine the search to the first two or three letters, instead of just the initial letter? In some cases, it takes a lot of guessing to get to the right page! Smiling

If you're browsing by genus, you sure can do that. Once you select your genus from the list, then click on the letter (A-Z) at the top of the page, and it'll limit your browse to just those plants.

Maybe I didn't explain that right. Ok, I can go to the browse genus page and select "I." But then I want to get to "Iris." And all I have is page numbers to choose from. Or am I missing something here?

In that case you just have to go page by page looking for it.

Or use the search engine to go directly to it by searching for "iris".

Oh, pooh! Guess I'm just greedy and lazy! Hilarious! Got spoiled by the search function on my prescription drug website, where if you type in just the first two of three letters, it brings up a list of things that begin with those letters. But then, they don't have as many variables to deal with as a plant database!

I have a question. The listings for Plumeria sometimes have a name that is not the correct one, or the most recognized one. Is it possible to change names?
Example: Plumeria rubra 'Belle Vista' is registered as 'California Sally' and also more commonly known as 'Bud's Sally' and many people will never have heard of 'Belle Vista'. What to do? I have for now put the aka's in the notes.

Hetty, you can send to me whatever changes need to be made to the cultivar.

Or, I can give you moderator access over Plumerias and you will then have access to edit them to your hearts content. What say you?

Alright. You are in and you now have moderator access.

Your images and edits will be automatically approved without needing moderator approval. Anybody else's photos and data proposal for Plumerias can be approved by you through the moderation pages.
