Jen - it is an amazingly beautiful bloom. Otherwise I would not pine for it so.

I guess beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I have Wilderbeast and I like Batik. I like the streakers.

I ripped out all my batik last year. I always felt it bloomed different everytime it bloomed.

Jen--broken color irises do that sort of bloom.

'Batik' is one of the few broken colors I'll keep for now.. The color is good.. It hasn't performed well, but neither have most of the other iris in that bed. They all liked the better attention given to fertilizer this year, however.

I may cull this one, pretty blue but not enough drama for me. Any takers?

And this one came to my garden mislabeled, a great big bloom, excellent bloom stalks and bloom placement, deserving of it's awards but too pale for my garden.

And this little historic needs a home too, it disappears in my crowded garden.

I will wait until mine bloom to decide for sure, but I'm thinking Thorn Bird and Spinning Wheel may go. I like them both but am getting tired of them.

Sherry, you need to teach your poodle to hunt gophers!

I used to have 'Batik' many years ago, but decided it was ugly. Maybe not as ugly as 'Ziggy' was... at least for my taste... but ugly enough. I guess I just don't like broken colors.

Beautiful blue on that 'Baja Blue', Sue, but I'm pressed to figure out spaces for the incoming as it is...
Evaluating an iris seedling, hopefully for rebloom

It's a good thing that one size doesn't fit all, or all of our gardens would be the same. There's something for every one among the irises. Smiling

I, for one, also like broken color iris. I have a few and enjoy them. I am glad to say I don't think I have any flowers that would bring on such a strong negative reaction.

Cindy, I love art and they remind me of modern art paintings. To each his own.

To stay with the thread theme. The only ones I am culling is the older historic ones and the grape smelling iris. I will find them a forever home. Hurray! Hurray!
