I love my Bewilderbeast, and am fond of Tiger Honey too. They add nice contrast in the garden. I don't have other plants besides iris in my beds, so the use of smaller form historics, broken color iris, space agers and the such really adds focal points in a sea of tall bearded iris.

I am starting to dislike the "Broken" irises as well; but mainly that is because they as a whole are under performers at best.

Still, I think they are interesting and provide a talking point to the novice garden observer. I also am not too fond of plain White irises either; but you need a few "plain Janes" to compensate for the "Wild and Crazy Guys" (gee; am I dating myself with that reference?)

Sue, I would appreciate you adding my name to some of those you will be culling. I'm not picky and would very much appreciate a nice mixture of them. Thank you. Smiling

I like the broken colors if they are bright and bold. I have one or two pale ones that I am going to part ways with.

Leslie, What do you grow with 'Tiger Honey'? I'm not sure anything can make it look good, but I'm willing have an open mind.. nodding
Some of the others I'm just tired of, and some are not as vigorous as I'd like, or great bloomers... I actually like Bewilderbeast the best of the bunch, but I think it's got scorch, and would just as soon put something else in that spot..

OMG, I think I am gonna cull one!
Western Sage (I.B. 1992 Palmer)- it makes a nice clump but it is not one of my favorites so I think it will go this year!

Henhouse said:As I'm going through my planting beds of Iris, there are many that just don't work for me.. Some were door prizes, some were ones whose pictures out-dazzled the actual Iris.. Many were from our free for all July picnic where rhizomes were $3 each at one point, and free at another.. A couple were bonuses from orders (from companies I'm not doing business with now...

I'm just starting to get a list together.
'Betty Christine' didn't excite me last year, and I like her less now.

'Coyote Ugly' did a really neat split colored fall one time, but that was the last excitement I had from it.

'Bewilderbeast' is another broken color that no longer enchants me.

'Tiger Honey'I got as a companion sor 'Striped Tiger', but it's colors are a little wimpy for me.

'Girly Girl' was a bonus piccata from Schreiners a couple of years ago. It's nice enough, but it doesn't make me do the happy dance.

Of course, these are mostly for the asking..

I'll post some more tomorrow afternoon.

I would be interested in Bewilderbeast.

I think Western Sage is sort of sweet, but then again, I still have it in a pot... It was also a mislabeled Iris from Blue J, and I never got a replacement for what I actually ordered. I shouldn't take it out on the poor Iris.. it wasn't to blame. Shrug!
