susan, the reds never capture very well, no matter what I do. Compared to Purple Eye , it is more burgundy/raspberry color, quite different. This lily had a tag on it that said it was some HGTV trademarked lily.

Dave, there are some greenhouses outside of Madison that have the not always standard selections of lilies. I normally buy a couple as well as start some for the pots on my deck in order to achieve a little earlier bloom.

Kopkes outside of Oregon has a good selection and yes, The Flower Factory! Kopkes is more reasonable for lilies and has an early wide selection available usually. Both are great places worth the trip. Flower Factory I love to visit throughout the season. Great place, awesome selection of all sorts of perennials.

Same with the out to down facing lilies as opposed to the upfacing cut flower types. Gotta go to the older ones.

There is just so much more to a lily than up facing stature and clear spotless color.

Nice pic, pard. Love the color too.

Hi Sally,

I live in Melbourne, so our winters are more temperate than inland Victoria. We had a daily max. of around 20 degrees C up until just over a week ago; this past week the temperature hasn't gotten above 15-16 deg C and gets down to around 4-5 at night. It's also been raining every day this week, with more rain forecast for the weekend. The temperatures won't drop much more (in regional Victoria and outside Melbourne there are places that will regularly see between -1 and 1 overnight through winter), but it'll remain like that for the next 3-4 months. The summer just gone was a lot more temperate than usual (usually we have a week around 40 deg C, whereas I don't think we even got a single day), so who knows if winter will follow the usual pattern. Melbourne weather is known for its unpredictability, but even these last six months it seems like it's ignoring the forecast a lot more than usual.

Joshua,
I had to cheat and look at a conversion chart. Low 30's wouldn't be bad for all winter, but sheesh jumping to 40 °C is a bit hot!

Jmorth,
Beautiful colors! I brought back four or five colors of Asiatic lilies from my Mom's bed after she passes. I know they were ordered from Breck. I had the paper with their names. I Googled all over trying to call up pictures to match name to color. Nada... How many lilies are the same with a different name?

That's hard to say. Some retailer's take a 'writer's liberty' and rename their product. What names did you have?
