Be sure to maintain the ID tags properly. They lose value otherwise.

that is what scares me how do you mark the semps after you plant them so that there is no tags in the gardens ??
I have so many plant markers in my garden s & Many of them have washed off or weathered off what do you all use ??

i use little shiny rocks with a Paint pen. i have tried everthing under the sun for labels . in my big beds with big plants iuse large metal tags with labels i have printed out on clear laser labels. i have some that are more than 15 yrs old. I saw a ladies mini garden with the rocks and my husband discovered paint pens for his daylily seadlings. some of my little painted rocks are going into their third yr. and still look very good.

You can use the painted rocks, the plastic markers (use a pencil instead of a pen, it won't fade like the pen), twit and others use old cut up venetian blinds.

Chris uses the plastic markers and paints them black and uses a P-touch for printing the names.

Or these zinc EON markers with P'touch printed labels.

I think that this topic would be great to add to Chris's plant tag thread over in Helpful Hint Forum The thread "Plant Tags, Labels and Markers" in Sempervivum forum
Any one that would like to share how they tag/mark their plants here is the link post the this link.
Can't wait to see all the creative ways people idea their plants.

I figure any plants that gets put in my wall or wreaths will never be known by name again. That is probably why I don't trade many plants even if I think I know what they are when I plant them. I do keep a list of plants where they were planted with pictures and where they came from. But sometimes my info isn't correct or things get mixed. Bad enough when you have a doz Daylily and can't quite keep them straight I will never keep the semps straight unless I keep them growing in marked pots which isn't what I will do with most of them.

Cross posted with you Cynthia. Can you post some photos of the different tags in this thread? The thread "Plant Tags, Labels and Markers" in Sempervivum forum
Those are some great ideas.

I think I will. I have never done hypertufa but like the looks of it, especially with succulents. I have made some concrete things like stepping stones and may do a birdbath this year ... but heavy to work with. I picked up a bag of perlite the other day and I have some of the ingredients.

Can you drill hypertufa for drainage or did I overlook that in the article?

I think I would like to give some pieces a mossy look like this medallion that I left outside over the winter. Rolling my eyes. Does hypertufa do this if you leave it outside?

We used to make annual trips to Kentucky and drove by within about 30 miles of NHN. Of course, I did not know then how close they were. Too little, too late.

Was able to get out this morning at sun-up and spent about an hour with the plants. Just a general assessment and cleanup. Pulled a lot of early little weeds from the pots and cleaned the dead leaves from the pots. I can tell that the gems have started to grow already.

It interesting to see them just after they emerge from winter hibernation. The colors of the sempervivum sort out into two main types, the reds and the greens and it can be hard to tell them apart by color. Once the warmer weather kicks in, then we will see them all assert their individuality.
