This time of year I think of the trees in their season of color I grew up with in VA. This is a fair trade, as I do not miss the cold.

Scott, when is your garden going to be on tour? I'll make the trip over to see it. Whistling

I am not showing the bad parts of the garden. Rolling on the floor laughing I wish it all looked well the hail storm a few weeks ago messed with my leafy plants. Grumbling

That's all part of nature and there is not a gardener alive that has not dealt with similar issues. I am reminded of a friend, an international daylily judge, who woke up the day of a tour of her garden to find her daylilies missing. A herd of deer had come through during the night and they ate every last daylily to the ground. It happens.

Thank you for the picture of 'Rocio', Scot! How does it grove the different leaves? So far all new growth on mine is elongated. Does it mean that the next new growth will be in different shape?

Looking good Scott, especially 'Rocio' Thumbs up Thumbs up .

Sorry to hear about the hail, I've got chewed leaves all over my garden from the Lubber grasshopper, but must say they've never sampled my Crotons, thank goodness. All this rain has them growing like weeds.

Halyna, I have not figured out why the leaf shape changes. I have grown three different plants of 'Rocio' for seven years now. I have watched for new growth leaf shapes changing with the seasons. That thought did not hold as the plants have a mind of their own it seems. Branches on the same bush will flush new growth at the same time, but with different leaf shapes.

Here is the common 'Yellow Mamey'
Thumb of 2019-07-28/ScotTi/0b4603

Here is a tissue culture sport from 'Yellow Mamey' known as 'Guayaba'.
The 'Guayaba' resembles the 'Yellow Mamey' at a glance. The leaves are half the size of 'Yellow Mamey' and less coloration on leaf underside. It also throws roundish leaves at times.

Looking beautiful Scott, I really like 'Yellow Iceton'.

I was admiring mine right before last week's coldest night, they get more sun in the winter since overhead trees have less leaves, just like the bromeliads seem to color up more this time of year.
I'm so glad this last cold snap didn't hurt them, a bit wind blown but no leaf damage. It dropped to 33/34F a couple hours at dawn, most the night it hovered around 36/37F, only protection was a beach umbrella over some (in case of frost, but none due to wind), most were on their own.

I took these of my favorties the DAY BEFORE the cold snap last week, just in case they got zapped.

Zanzibar is the only one that looks a bit worn, but mostly from the wind.
