I have updated the list of how to get acorns. You can see the full list here:

http://garden.org/special/acor...

New this morning is that you get acorns for helping the database moderators. If you view the unapproved queues in the plant database and see something that you think should be approved, you can give that item a thumbs-up.

If a moderator then comes along and approves that item, you will get 0.05 acorns for helping. It's not much but it can sure add up.

You also get acorns for proposing the import of images from the forums into the database and other things like that.

I like that about the thumbs up in the to be approved catch. I look there often, I think lots of us do that! And I had Thumbs up immages in there in the past already so this is a great idea for more acorns!

What happens about thumbs up to immages already approved? Any plans about that?

When you do that, it bumps an image into the first slot. Sometimes I do that for an exceptional image so that it appears in that slot as well as on the genus listings. I try not to do it too often, don't want to hurt anyone's feelings if they were the first one to submit an image and then they get bumped, have to be selective.

Well, I was only doing thumbs up for exceptional photos no matter were they are located. I think it is great to give a thumbs up but it really has no value if one were to give them out to just about everything one sees. I like that about the image moving up to be the first one shown if it receives thumbs up. Seems like a great idea and only fair to me.

I think a good rule of thumb (pardon the pun) is to go ahead and give a thumbup to anything that you like.

If I'm in the database and I see something that makes me think, "Oh I like that!" then I mindlessly click the thumbsup icon. Smiling

So you both think I might be holding up too much from giving thumbs up? I really think about it before I give one to an image as I look at it. Really look lots and rarely give those thumbs up even though I like the picture. For instance if it is a plant I don't know anything about I almost never do even though it is a lovely immage. Maybe I am not getting the idea behind doing thumbs up and being TOO selective.

I think you're thinking too hard, Rita. Giving a thumbsup is fun and easy and shouldn't be thought about to hard. Be generous! They cost nothing to give. Smiling

Yep, go for it Rita, your gut instinct! It's also fun to later go through your list of thumbs up from your profile page and see your selections again as well as who gave you thumbs up! You can do that by clicking on the number next to the thumb. Big Grin

Thanks, Sue. I already found that page that shows thumbs up given and received. I do look sometimes to see who gave me thumbs up.

I gave 4 acorns to friends via tree mail and they have never taken them. Since it has been so long can I take them back? If so how?

They don't have to take them. Once you send them, they are automatically received.
