Daniel your last photo. Is that a peony? Too pretty! Between you and Debra and Seedfork y'all are going to have me growing roses and I have already been there and done that. Mine were climbers though and one of them refuses to die. I would love to have a Joseph's Coat again if it wasn't a climber.
Love your little people too! Smiling

I lost over 100 roses over the past 3 years. I only have a few left and some of them are just rootstocks that made it. They don't seem to like the SC heat and humidity. The droughts we get don't help either. If you ever want cuttings from mine that are doing well here to try in AL you are welcome to some.

Almost nothing in the way of iris blooms. Stopped raining in January and temps started soaring into high 80s low 90s. No shade because trees were not leafed out. Soil temps got really high. I think the iris thought it was summer already. At least they did not die. I am glad yours did great. Daylilies are strange this year. Lots of insect problems because it has been so warm. Not alot of blooms but when they do bloom the flowers are huge. Alot of the scapes are on the short side. Just trying to get the fans looking good for when the summer heat hits. I have already lost alot of fans. Just took out 4 roses. The crazy part is I am putting in 6 more. Crazy is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Hilarious! I think we get to see our gardens come true in heaven. Blessed are those with good results here and may you be blessed with good results!

I'm sorry to hear you are having so much trouble this year. Late spring frost affected both my fruit trees and some daylilies this year. I thought all the peaches where goners but I found a few the other day under some leaves. I'm just now getting blooms on my daylilies because of the set back but many will be first timers and I can't wait to see what they will look like Thumbs up

Glad you still have a little fruit. All blooms are exciting but the first time blooms are more so! Please share pictures. May you and your family be surrounded by joy!

Its a daylily seedling. Many of the daylily pics are of seedlings in post 28. Its a one of a kind. that's the joy of growing things from seeds. This particular cross was done by my friend Donald garden.org member needrain. His crosses have been very impressive. I have about 300 more seedlings in pots that will be transplanted later this year. They where started about 2 months ago.. I hope to post some more blooms in the coming weeks. Many of those should be seedlings also.

Daniel, that daylily looks like Asiatic Pheasant. Was that one of its parents? I really like your assortment of seedlings. Are they in beds of just daylilies or do you have mixed plantings? The hydrangea is beautiful. Your daylilies would look great with that in the background. May your garden and life be full of success!

Thank you both so much. The parents are Nyiragongo x Lillian's Vapor Trail. I have the names of all my recent seedlings on The thread "May 2017 Seedling Blooms" in Daylilies forum

Sharon my seedlings are planted with other plants. Mostly fruit trees but a few ornamentals and other flowers also. I did have irises and daylilies mixed together but they don't do well together.

Daniel, I went to putting daylilies in giant containers like Donald has been doing. So far I am trying to grow some of my better daylilies in them. Then I moved the inground daylilies around the containers. Hopefully they get overflow watering and the containers help keep the ground cooler and moist. So far the container plants are doing better. I actually may have fan increases. Have to see what the summer brings. If you get a chance it would be great to see your layout.
On a side note I went and picked up 40 seedlings. I was told what to do for regular fan increases. Take one new fan from the outside of the plant. Put it in a container at least 18 inches diameter. Add 50/50 potting mix and compost, throw in some earthworms. On the top sprinkle time release fertilizer, fiiltered sunlight and water next year a clump.
She was adamant one fan per pot, she does get the increases. Although she lives in same area, my daughter pointed out it is 10 to 15 degrees cooler where she lives. Basically in an oak forest.
I still may try it. Your seedlings do look great! May God Bless Your Family.

Daniel-- Just breathtaking all the work you have done! Equally fantastic all the flowers you have! What fun to walk around and see what is blooming. An exceptional job you have done. You earned the right to be proud!
May you and your family receive an overabundance of blessings!

Thanks Sharon, I'm way behind in weeding but the flowers sort of take people's eyes off the weeds *Blush*
Dave the 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th picture are all seedlings and siblings. Their parents are Calico Spider x Lillian's Vapor Trail. There is a ton of variability in crosses and no 2 seedlings are the same. Some may be similar in color but may vary in scape height, flower size, number of buds, ect. Many times you can see the traits of both parents shine through in their offspring but sometimes it's like some genes got mixed up somewhere along the way and they look nothing like the parents. Shrug! I's so fun growing daylilies from seeds, everyone is a surprise until it blooms and is a one of a kind.
