A quick visit to Carter and Holmes today yielded a pretty Den. 'Fire Coral'. It was still in a flat but I convinced them to let me have one and potted it myself after I got to my son's home. It has a lovely citrusy scent.

The pickin's were slim in that nothing was blooming, They only had 2 out of 18 greenhouses open and one was primarily house plants. I made a point of stopping today just to pick up this little 'Mary Ellen' for DIL of the same name.

Right, Ursula. Even the tag says Potinara.

OK Jim, just for the record, what would the correct name be for the Den Fire Coral or is that it?

May I help, since Jim is away from his Computer?
It is Dendrobium Fire Coral. It is not a 'Cultivar'.

Thank you! As it was still in a flat there was only an in-house penciled label with a date. I am not a very sophisticated
orchid aficionado, I just liked the colors and the scent. That and it was one of the few things blooming. That sort of blew me away I remembered those greenhouses dripping with flowers.

And uses a lot of tape. Smiling

I agree though, Ken's place is a winner. I also like Kawamoto, Mote's, Andy's and Hausermanns.

I'm having a bad day (week). I broke my foot on Thursday - Dr. says stress fracture but the result is the same.

Something got into my greenhouse last night - first time ever. I live in the middle of the city. My Hubby went out and bought a trap. I'll let you know what I catch. It destroyed my pond and ate my koi. Somehow my turtle lived through the adventure. Considering the number of rocks in the bottom of his pond, I'm not sure how he did.

Before hitting the greenhouse, the varmit took out all my waterlilies outside.

I'd bet it was a raccoon. They like fish and water gardens. So sorry, Daisy and hope your foot feels better soon. It's so very frustrating to not be able to get around to do the things you need or want to.

If you're baiting your trap for a raccoon, the ones at my house really go for bananas.

Bananas? I've never tried that. I have caught them by using traps with two doors and leaving both doors open - They walk through the trap because it looks easier than walking around. Smiling

I baited it with a piece of fish, two shrimp tails and a pluot pit. Wonder if I should have added a starch? Smiling

I've had the koi for 3 years - my daughter points out that they probably came to the surface and said eat me (hand fed fish). It didn't get my turtle - I've had him for 15 years. I do worry he will be back to try again and, as this was a daytime raid, I also worry about my dog. A raccoon would probably out weigh him but he's a terrier and thinks he's really big.

It's hard to sympathize with critters when they become destructive.

.....as Squirrel number 18 found a path under the netting to get at the Currants, he now plays with the rest of his family down by the bike path in the park. Lucky critter, his belly is full, he had lovely cookies with Peanut butter first.
