Lindsey, What a blow. It is best to get it done right though. The home inspectors around here are like bull dogs and any hint of mold (and they do search) is enough to blow the sale of a home so doing it right now while the kitchen is empty is an economic benefit in the long run. Have you talked to your insurance carrier? Especially since you have medical issues it just might be covered.

Thanks for hiring the vets, we find they are the best! Living in a military town we have an abundance of retired folks who have the most amazing skills.

I agree on the vets!
Be grateful that you can live in the house! My former neighbors were in a motel with 4 dogs and a cat for 6 weeks while the insurance contractors removed the mold.

Ouch. Black mould can be nasty. Hope you manage to get it sorted quickly, Lindsey.

Rather than transcribe the tags and potentially add in MORE errors.. here's some photos. Looking at this font is it possible that some of the 'l's are getting mixed with 'i's' especially if the ink flows?

I think there might be one more besides the 'Settle Me Down' that I put in the November blooms thread.. it's been absorbed by the village on the bench apparently!

Yes, Ursula, I think this is it. I found it listed as Rth. Orquiotto and tracing its lineage, the parents (Flameout and Rebecca Merkel) both used to be Potinaras. So, Orquiotto was a Potinara as well.

Lindsey, your tag should read: (Rth. Orquiotto x Rlc. Orglade's Royale). No registration of this grex as of yet. That was a tough one. Thanks for the assist, Ursula.

Now looking at the other tag, it is indeed (B. cucullata X C. tenebrosa) X Rl. digbyana. The cucullata X tenebrosa has a name which is Bc. Sunset Surprise. So then I look up Bc. Sunset Surprise X Rl. digbyana and find no registration. Therefore, your tag should read: ( Bc. Sunset Surprise X Rl. digbyana).

I have a talk at 2:15 so I'm outta here.

Patty and I went to the orchid club meeting last night at Selby and there sure were some pretty things on display. Also an excellent and entertaining talk on Dendrobiums by Mack Rivenbark from Ft. Lauderdale. He was great, and told us all the types of Den that he's found are not too hard to grow in Florida, each with culture advice and funny anecdotes.

Sorry, I remembered to snap some pictures right at the end and didn't get any names.

A Bl. Yellow Bird won best novice grower, and it didn't look much like any of my Yellow Birds Rolling my eyes. Some of mine have red dots on the lip, but this one had dots on both the lip and petals.

Are there different varieties of what's known as yellow bird?
Is it fragrant?

Ha, sorry that one was whipped away by its owner moments after I shot the picture. Was thinking it looked familiar ..

I didn't win any prizes, I was just there as a guest of Patty this time. The Yellow Birds are an older cross I think, and seem to vary depending upon whom you buy them from. Mine have a light jasmine scent at night. A real workhorse when it comes to blooming often, though.

My dozen Vandas (actually 13! ) from Motes Orchids arrived today. Sort of bad timing since I'm clearing out the cage for power-washing this week, but I am thrilled with the nice looking plants, and even got one with a couple of beat-up flowers still on it.

All are quarter-terete (small, narrow leaves) crosses of V. Josephine Van Brero and blooming size - sure hope they fulfill their billing from the Motes folks.

I figured any Vanda from Motes that was cheaper than what we were getting in Apopka should be a good deal.

Looks like I'll have a great array of colors if they all bloom, too. Here are the crosses I got:
3 V. Josephine Van Brero X V. Thongchai Gold
2 V. Josephine Van Brero X V. Suksumran Orange
3 V. Josephine Van Brero X V. Dr. Anek (a nice dark pink/rosy red it appears)
3 V. Josephine Van Brero X V. Pat Delight Blue Spots
1 V. Josephine Van Brero X V. Kultana Ruby Red
1 V. Josephine Van Brero X V. Kultana Blue

Josephine herself seems to be a pale pink or peachy shade. So, well we shall see! Shrug! Big Grin
