Thanks Zuzu - I'll try it on them as well - if there is enough to go around - only bought a small bag to try on the pots mainly.

Joanne was the first to post pics in a while Confused
You must all be busy tending you roses and are so 'kapooped' in the evening that you haven't the energy to post any pics Big Grin
I login every day hoping to see some pics or hear what you are all up to.

Today, I only had to deadhead a couple of roses because the first flush is over and it will be a while for the second to start in earnest. Got all my edges trimmed and weeded my iris and rose trial beds and took a stroll over the lawn, big screwdriver in hand and removed all the weeds I could find. I am 'weed-free' Hurray! Everything is looking great and ready for the weekend when all the family (28) come for a get-together. Tomorrow no gardening - only house cleaning - and then I will be ready for the onslaught! Crazy how I always feel that I have to get everything just so before we have people around - it is just as big a job afterwards Glare But it's great to have them here especially the family we only see once every other year!

Enough bla, bla here are some pics taken over the last couple of days

Sharlene, it's so hot here that most of my blooms are freakishly small and usually are fading or shattering by the time the sunlight abates enough to take good pictures. In the meantime, I'm really enjoying Joanne's photos and yours.

Huddersfield Choral Society might just be the rose of my dreams -- mauve with a silver reverse? What a heavenly combination, and your photo shows it off so well.

It's nice to see such luscious roses posted here. Most of mine are suffering from the heat and not worth photographing: not many blooms or leaves.

It's 110F / 43.3C right now at 6:40 pm, so it doesn't take much imagination to figure out how fried my roses look like ... or how fried I feel ... Hilarious!

I can't even remember how many days we have had triple digit temps, but I do know it's not going to get down to the mid 90s until Monday ... Sighing!
I'd rather weed than dust ... the weeds stay gone longer.

On the hunt for roses that weren't affected by the heat, I ran into these beauties.

Bull's Eye, Colette, and Hotel Royal

Jasmina, Rainbow Niagara, and Sunstruck

Do it! Just go out there with your camera and find some heat-resistant blooms.

Looks like Regan Nursery will be around for at least one more season. They've started listing their new roses for 2017. Some of the links still go nowhere, and the prices aren't listed yet, but they'll be offering grafted bare-root Earth Angel, First Crush, and Madame Anisette, so if Palatine doesn't offer them, I'll be able to get them from Regan.

Beautiful photos Sharlene! I had to stare at those 2 lavenders for a while, both are stunners!

What a wonderful surprise Zuzu, that cluster of Jasmina blooms is glorious!

Japanese beetle activity has increased during this hot, humid weather. Between the 2 issues, there aren't many rose blooms worth photographing.

Glad you all liked my pics.

Zuzu, yours are beautiful too!! I did a double take with Bull's Eye - I could have sworn it was Eyes for You. I have found that EfY changes depending on the weather - now with this sunny weather and higher temps the outer petals almost are white.
I hope Huddersfield finds it's way over to the States. I have it planted with Minerva, Ebb Tide and Purple Lodge and it is always the one that catches my eye first! It has done really well for a first year plant.

I don't know how all of you cope with triple digit temps for so long. Mid June we had three days of +/- 95F but that is about as high as it gets hear. It has been around 82F the last week or so with quick showers every other day so I don't have to water but humidity is high which makes it a little uncomfortable.
Still, it is nothing in comparison to what you have described Lyn!!!

Neal, sorry to hear the JB's are at it again. I have black vine weevils in the garden which have now added, in addition to rhododendron, lilac, forsythia, heuchera and a couple of others, my roses to their menu plan. Only consolation is that they leave the blooms alone and only go for the leaves.

Porkpal - looking forward to seeing you take up the challenge and BTW I also have some without leaves!! Been quite a lot of BS this year. Might just take some pics and share some of the uglies as well - I think we all have them Grumbling

Well, several of these blooms are not optimum: smaller and duller than usual, but at least they are blooms which in our heat and recent drought is commendable.

Mrs. B.R. Cant has been a real winner for me and has bloomed continuously since her second year in the ground while holding her foliage and growing vigorously.

Dortmund is a very faithful performer here. In the drought of 2011, when it did not rain at all from February until September, Dortmund kept good foliage and continued to bloom with no supplemental water!
