Autumn Joy should do very well for you. Late summer or early fall remind me and I can send you some cyclamen babies. They are to small to ship right now. They would love your new shade garden.

Hi, Ron the seed-killer. Plant them in a raised bed and that will pull the moisture down from the roots.
You ought to be in a tropical Paradise Ron. Lynn will help you learn about succulents.

Hi Ron. You couldn't possible have more rain than we do, especially this time of year. We also have very heavy clay soil. Charleen is correct, put in a raised bed, or remove about 4" of soil from the bed you would like to use. Mix up a bunch of Al's Potting Soil Mix. Here is a link to the recipe. http://cubits.org/sedumandsemp...
Fill the existing bed with this mix and start planting away. I notice that you live in Texas, does that mean summer has some pretty intense sun & heat? If so some very light shade would be beneficial to them. All of mine made it through the extended period of 100 + weather we had last summer with no ill affects. Can bring on some pretty spectacular color. Most of mine do have relief in the afernoon because of where the beds are located.
Go forth and plant. Just give them good drainage. Thumbs up

I have two more beds started. Needed someone younger than me to haul all that donkeypoo, but I still have to put soil in on it too. I think I am going to do a sedum one in there. Guess what?? DH is building pen for dog so he can be fastened up away from flowers. thank god. I made have flowers yet. Poor Lucas, the dufuss. Ron , You will do great. Just keep asking questions, that's how you learn.

I won't be long before Lucas can be in the garden without destroying things. : )
Just take him on walks in the garden when you can keep an absolute eye on him and talk to him when he is headed for doing something wrong. : ) Soon he will be wonder dog.

Thanks folks I'm gonna try to plant one behind my house I have three acres on a lake and I am in the process of a total lanscape remodel. I had 82 pine trees cut down ( sold them for enough cash to get the stumps ground) I have replaced them with about 150 smaller prettier trees I am also putting in and arbor section if the weather will allow. I really want to have an variety of landscapes in different areas. I am retired so I have more time. Charleen I love the dog. We had an old St. Bernard female we loved and took her every where with us. But we had to put her down last year and my wife says no more dogs. She was devestated when we lost her and doesn't want to go thru it again I don't really blame her. We walk 3 mile every day and we wind up with anywhere from 1 to 5 dogs with us when we are done. One a solid black stray is the nicest one she is there every day. So I feed her and then she leaves. She's right back there the next day.
Oh by the way after I had those stumps ground I scraped up all the chips and I havn't bought mulch for a couple of years worked out pretty good. Can I plant any kind of succulent or only certain kinds......Thanx ......for the info....seedkiller RON

Well. Seedkiller Ron, You get these in plants so you don't have to mess with seed. You can go from Seedkiller Ron to Sedume Hugger Ron. They are pretty tough.
Lynn here is that frog. He is a wee bit weathered but he is going to get more weathered. I dragged him out from one tree to another. Will show you profile in a bit.

Ohhh. I am loving that frog Charleen. Where did you say you live? Rolling my eyes.
Ron, there are hundreds of varieties out there that would do well for you. Here are a couple of links. Browse through them and see which ones appeal to you.
http://www.squawmountaingarden... I've bought plants several times from Squaw Mountain and have always been happy with them.
http://mountaincrestgardens.co... I have an order coming in April from this nursery and have heard very good reports about them.
Have fun. Just remember if it is called a soft succulent it will not be winter hardy. If you have any questions just ask and we will try to help you in your search. Would love to see pictures as you go. : )

I had it out under a peach tree, dragged it out this a.m.
Don't know what it is made of but It is showing a weathered effect and it is as cute as can be.
I was thinking of that turtle. I have a turtle concrete stepping stone. May start from that and build it a body on the base.
does that sound doable?? I think I am going to try.

I hope my wife doen't see that frog or I'll be out shopping today. Its raining again so good day to shop. I need to get some of the ingredients for the soil mixture I am not sure if I can find it all but I'll try. I have a few succulents now but like a dummy I didn't mark them all so I'll look thru the sights Lynn put on here and name the ones I have and see which one I want. Thanx again RON

Good morning Chris. I think I will start making new entries in the Database today. I can always add the pictures later. If you want to send me a list of the named varieties for both Sedum and Semps I can enter all the info and then maybe you can add pictures?
Anyone else that has named varieties can enter theirs also. It is a very easy to use Database. Don't worry if you can't fill it in completely, just the required fields will work. I can fill the rest in later for you.
