TYVM! No, I slosh water over it a few times (a few mins between each time) to get it thoroughly moistened. Usually about 2x/week if it hasn't rained.

I made this "pot" out of chicken wire & window screen. Filled with cuttings. The ornamental purslane (Portulaca umbraticola) will perk up after it takes root. I didn't get around to adding hanging arms yet, ran out of rolled steel wire.

If anyone is wondering if the Euphorbia 'Diamond Frost' being sold with the landscape annuals is really a perennial. It absolutely is! Almost died this winter from getting too dry but it's back to blooming & dangling out of this pot.

This pot is hanging now, and it looks like the Portulaca umbraticola stems have taken root & perked up. Kind of a wimpy succulent, that wilts so easily. If I can remember to keep watering it, it should look like a hanging mass of blooms surrounding succulents soon.

TYVM! IDK if my thumb is green, usually too dirty to see anything but dirt. Having an affinity for plants that grow quickly does make good results pretty much foolproof. I've not done much except "just add water."

I wondered how hard it would be to keep your wire baskets hydrated. Do you keep a large container to dip them in?

No, I've been watering them just like I would a regular pot, but I try to remember to come back & water a 2nd time just to make sure everything is saturated well since it's going to dry more quickly.

I like the idea of having a large container to sit the plants in to get them well saturated. I've always had trouble watering plants in wire baskets.

Thanks, I was curious. My Hoyas are so rootbound that I do sink them in a tub of water and let them soak till the bubbling quits. Thought that might be what you were doing.

Having killed so many plants with water before I entered the "admit I have a problem" and "recovery" phases, I'm much more comfortable with these wire-type containers than a plastic pot. Only over winter have I ever managed to kill a plant from lack of water. ...and once an addict... always in recovery. I could relapse at any moment! LOL!

Fry basket turned planter is getting to look like it did in my imagination when I put it together last year. From the side that gets the most sun, only the handle is visible. There were a bunch of Sedum rupestre cuttings in the front while they were blooming, but I pulled most of them out. Previous experience with that plant as a potted entity kept past the bloom phase has been underwhelming. Patches of it in the landscape will be ready to use for some other purpose whenever one arises.

Really getting to like Rhipsalis as a ground cover. It seems like the tiny pieces stuck in pots are never going to do anything for a while, then one day it has suddenly made about a dozen new branches & what started as a few pieces now look like a cover.

Baby palms were really boring by themselves.

Tiffany, do you ever find that one plant will overwhelm the whole container (either by roots or top growth?) when you combine them? Confused

Yes, if left to their own devices, some plants can grow to cover or shade others. Plants in group pots need occasional guidance, like moving parts of one plant out from under another, trimming, having a front/back, with taller plants to the back, various techniques, similar to how one would maintain an in-ground landscape.

None of the combos are meant to be permanent, but just as long as they look good & happy together. If a relationship does not work, or as plants become too big for their pot (which happens whether plants are grouped together or alone,) or for each other, I separate them & try something else. I've not seen any instances of what looked or seemed like one plant's roots overwhelming another.
