Ham, I thought I was repurposing an kid's insect observation thingie as a planter (1st pic) but my husband informed me it was his, for keeping crickets, for fishing bait. Oops. The 2nd "planter" is a desk or locker accessory... I think. I found it in a used store for $3.

Tiffany, your planters look great. You just gave me some good ideas that I need to incorporate. Therefore, I'm heading to the dollar store for some of those plastic/wire baskets and/or trays for my succulents.

TYVM, and happy to enable! I bought a stack of plastic storage caddies a couple years ago @ DG, with mesh sides & a little (drain) hole in the bottom of each compartment. Much cheaper than pots of a similar size. A colander or sieve would be great containers too, plastic or metal. I hope to move all of my plants eventually to either unglazed clay or more interesting looking pots than "regular" plastic ones.

I've gotten some interesting pots, that are not pots ! For dirt cheep. Just by going to thrift store. I use my imagination ?🤔???
If I can drill drain hole/s in it, it's a plant pot ! 👍

Covering the fugly plastic if plants must be in a pot like that by using danglers and sticking plants through holes in the sides takes a lot of plants. This one has turned out to be pretty successful in that regard.

Who in the world would impulsively last fall stick a Coleus cutting in a pot with a Jade & other succulents? Guilty! It's a sun Coleus & needed tons of light for winter. The more dry conditions dictated that it could only maintain a very few leaves but it's alive, it' tall & it's headed back to the landscape soon.


This pot has an eclectic collection of various plants from Kalanchoes to Coleus. Ironically, the Ficus is the only one that displays distress from the soil getting very dry a few times. Not planted directly in the concrete towel pot my husband made. There's a plastic pot in there.

That's a cool pot!!

One of these years I'll get around to making one or two.

This pot is 3-4 yrs old. As things get too big, I trim or move them elsewhere but the tiny amount of soil & speed at which it dries causes most residents to be severely stunted. It is the inverted lid of a little Wardian case that rusted too much to use anymore, lined with window screen.
