Philip, that is actually okay I think, especially in Fresno. Your area is really rather much drier and way too hot during the dry months. It will be easier to reposition the plants she grows as needed.

Succulents has such shallow root systems anyways, so it will not need too big and too deep containers, unless one intends to grow real specimen sizes, so gradually lifting them up to wider containers as needed through the years.

But don't forget to share the photo!!! Always nice to see various ideas of growing succulents.

It looks awesome Philip! In shade and warm, those succulents will enjoy it very much! Our central valley heat is quite different when it starts bearing down..so the succulents will appreciate the shade. She has a lovely composition of her plants! Lovey dubby

I have added a gorgeous little purple Cordyline to this pot. Just a tiny cutting sold as annual at L's. I can't believe the color! I know it breaks some rule, but I like it there.

TYVM, Philip! The Cordyline isn't a succulent, so I'm expecting someone to object. I like that "5th dimension!!"

That's the one I was thinking of. Is that the one in your photo to the right of the big hairy kalanchoe?

Deborah, yes. Sorry I didn't understand which one you meant at first. That S. crassissimus is one of my most photogenic plants, always looks soooo gorgeous! Stem is blocked in the pic above but DB pics show some good shots of the amazing purple color of the stems.

Philip, 2 thumbs!! Smiling

TYVM, Karen! If they sold these little sux in the store with their "colors on," they wouldn't last a day on the shelf. Admittedly, in my climate, I've gotten some exercise taking plants in/out of greenhouse so they could avoid the fading winter-etiolation look, but it's been so worth it to my visual enjoyment!

'Tis the season for me to gather plants that were in the ground for summer vacay & group them into combo pots for winter... I'm getting a very slow start this year.

Tiffany those are great little combos! nodding Makes me think I need to do that with some of the smaller plants I've acquired over the summer. This way they will take less space now that they are inside. Thanks for the good idea! Thumbs up Might have to do some up this week.

Beautiful photos!! I notice that in many of these combo pots there is a strong vertical accent plant. I am a cactus/succulent beginner and most of my plants are new and since I was on a budget I bought smaller plants, mature cacti and succulents are pretty expensive. So to make up for the lack of height from my plants, I went to Ebay and bought some inexpensive 'lots' of driftwood and put driftwood pieces in most of the little gardens, some which supply the need for height.

Nice but a word of caution. I hope the driftwood doesn't have salt to damage your plants. Do be on guard.

I placed some in a large old, clean seashell and they turned to toast.

Frenchy, TY! And yes, it's about space. There's only so much "good light space" near windows & in GH. Traditionally, it's not the plants filling most of the space, but pots with vast amounts of empty space in them. I have a limit on how many pots will fit, and I try to use each one as fully as possible.

Lucille, TY! That driftwood is adorable! You're right about the tall things. In all 4 last pics, the tallest plant was a cutting, added last. It's so much easier to achieve upright-ness when there's already a crowd of shorter plants in place. They help keep the tall one from leaning while it takes root.

NICE ! @Lucillle Thumbs up
I'm going to use that ideal. 😎
Being your a beginner, im going to ask you ? Do all you pots have drain holes ? Drain holes are necessary !
Gravel, rocks, or sand, in bottom of pots, don't drain, only promotes root rot and other problems.
Well draining soil, necessary also. Water should run out bottom within 30 seconds or so.
If you know this already, GREAT Thumbs up Of course, it's good info for any newbies that come along !
Thanks, for ideal.
Have a wonderfully great day 😎
