I noticed roots on both my Hibiscus furcellatus and Hibiscus calyphyllus yesterday. This is what they look like today 11 day after taking the cuttings.

H. furcelltus and H. calyphyllus

I didn't take any picture but I noticed roots today on my Hibiscus rosa-sinensis 'Albo Lacinatus',
'Celia', and 'El Capitolio' Red. I'm didn't think any of the H. rosa-sinensis would take so quickly.

Wonderful, Jay. When you take the cuttings, are you using new growth or more the older stems (hard but bendable)?
I have a Jap. lantern that needs pruning, one stem is just sticking straight up and the two other side stems are way shorter.

I try to get the newest growth but this late in the season it has all started to get fairly firm.

Just noticed my Cherry Cheesecake shows more pink and streaking on cloudy day. Big Grin

Caught bumblebee curled up and sleeping by Hibiscus buds.

This is NOID pink. Fairly large and reliably comes back from seed. Full of buds.

I think everything photographs better on a cloudy day. Colors really show up without the glare or annoying shadows!

That's got to be Cherry Cheesecake! It has the prettiest buds of any of the hibiscus I have.

Rose, yes it is Cherry Cheesecake.
And you are right, all details show up better on cloudy days in person and in photos.

Hi everyone. I received a hibiscus last for mother's day. Not familiar with any plants but learning as I love beautiful flowers and that yellow flower and the cheese cake punk, umm gorgeous. Anyway, I thought I had lost the plant over the winter and this past spring, wow, was I wrong
Gonna post a picture, they look like the dinner plate hibiscus to me, the bloom is as big as my face.

Can anyone tell me how to protect it, it is in a planter - from the winter.
Thanks

Since it is in a pot, move it to a location that stays cold but does not freeze and keep it moist.

Is this the same as the one you posted here? http://garden.org/thread/view_...
I still haven't figured that one out, but I get the feeling it has Hibiscus schizopetalus in it's ancestry.

It's not that bright, much deeper red. Here is a good image showing the true color. Mine looked like the photo of the potted one on this page.

@piksihk I think I finally found it. I believe it is Hibiscus X archeri, which is a very old (late 1800's) hybrid cross between H. rosa-sinensis and H. schizopetalus.
