shouldn't I be able to see my own entries ? I enter 3 items on the fall swap tool so far and they don't show up in the main list or activity.

Is the Bronze Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare 'Purpureum') annual or perennial?

Rick, I don't have any little boxes next to the items on my list, so I can't enable it for the swap! Do you know what might be causing this?

and although I have never seen a black swallowtail in my yard , I have had black swallowtails caterpillars on it every year we have had it , which is 3 not counting this one , I think.

@Catmint20906 that happened to me too - no icons in the left most column of my main swap list. It must be something certain browser settings are blocking the icons from showing up. No icons when using the browser on my work computer, but icons did show up when using the browser on my home computer. I did discover that even with the icons not appearing, you can click in the blank space in the column and it does put that plant as available for the fall swap. I could tell that it was available because when I went back to the fall swap, the list showed my items. That should work for you and/or try a different browser. It happened to Sequoia too. I started a thread about it in the Site Talk forum. You may want to add to that thread and let Dave know it is happening to more than just me. He may want to look into what browser setting is blocking it for people.

thanks, Aspenhill! yes, I think it's a browser issue--when I click on where the icon is supposed to be I see it for a second, and then my plants show up on the swap list! I use Chrome. I wonder if it's Chrome, or my security settings?

I am using chrome on windows 7 and ( soon to be removed ) windows 10 and can see them

My whole computer locks up when I access the Seed swap tool drop down menues! My old unsupported browser and the NGA site fight each other to make secure connections to a varying assortment of sites that use an unenabled security protocol. Have to reboot 2-3 times a session. If I do not log in to NGA all my other browsings go just fine.
until I do. Dave says it is because I have an outdated browser but I'm not so sure as all began when ATP and NGA merged...

Anyway, if my communications here go a little wonkier than usual cut me some slack. Thanks.

Some notes on how the swap tool works:

First and foremost, if you have any questions on how to use the swap tool, PLEASE ASK. It's quite likely that someone else has the same question.

Times and Dates:

• All dates and times are based on the current date and time on the Garden.Org server. For those of us on the East coast, that time is 4 hours ahead. So, when it's 09:00am where you are, the server time is 01:00pm. This will be critical as the trading dealine approaches.
• Trading for this swap ends on Friday, September 9, 2016.
• As far as the Garden.Org site is concerned, the date changes at 08:00pm local time. This means that at 08:00pm each evening, you will receive more 'dibs' to trade items.

Getting Started:

• To participate, you need to register
• Once you complete your registration, the system will automatically set up some stuff for you to keep track of what you're offering and what you've called dibs on.

Your Swap List:

• The swap list is a list of items being offered. There are two different swap lists: your personal list and the master list.
• Your personal list is where you list items that you are offering for trade.
• The master swap list is everything being offered by all registered traders.
• As you add items to your swap list and marked them as available, they will appear on the master swap list.

Trading Items:

• The master swap list shows all items being offered by registered traders.
• In order to 'call dibs' or 'buy' an item in the swap, you need a supply of 'dibs'. Think of dibs as tokens for the bus or subway. Each dib let's you claim one offered item.
• The system hands out more dibs each day. The number of dibs given is equal to the current trading day. For example, if trading has been going on for 5 days, each person receives 5 more dibs. Dibs are cumulative. If you had 3 dibs left at the end of the day, they are added to what ever you get the next day.
• Dibs are given out at 08:00pm each evening. Please refer to the 'Times and Dates' section above for an explanation
• You do not have to use all of your dibs!
• When you call dibs on an item, your number of available dibs is reduced by one, the 'seller' or person offering the item is notified that you want something and the available inventory for that item is reduced by one.
• If the quantity available for a particular item iszero, you may contact the seller via tree mail to enquire if they have any more available. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t.

Seller Inventory Tracking:

• The system will automatically track your available inventory. When someone calls dibs on an item that you are offering, it will appear on your 'Sold Item' list, and your available inventory will be reduced by one.
• Once the swap has finished, you can print out your sold items list to use for packing everything up.

Heya! I got some things listed before we went out to run errands this evening... just in time! I listed "available" daffodils from the ADR group buy as well as a handful of iris rhizomes from the local sale I went to on Saturday. Prices on those are clearly marked. I asked a couple of folks in the group buy, and they thought it made sense to keep track of "deals" like that with the swap tool... I'll also list any plants I come across on the Lowe's clearance rack that I think somebody will want (I'll keep them if not).

@Shy_gardener, I used my first ticket to request one of your Kerria japonica! Thanks so much for offering it. I'm so in love with the double one I have... bloomed for weeks and weeks this spring. I'll try to get a couple of starts out of the ground from mine ('Flora pleno' I think) in case you have room for another!

Hi - question about Black Eyed Susans -
I have a good-sized patch which are just blooming- would like to bring a bunch for the swap. What is the best way to dig them up when they are so big? Cut them down a bit or dig them up full size?

I'd wait until the first week in September if possible (you can still put them on your plant list and take dibs/requests so you know how many clumps). Then they'll be starting to go dormant rather than blooming/seeding full throttle. You could probably just bag them (grocery bags around the root clump with handles tied around the stems so the leaves stick up works great) rather than pot... they are tough and will survive in bags for a couple weeks as long as they don't totally dry out. If you tie up the clumps like that you shouldn't have to trim to save space... the plants will probably lose a few leaves on their own.
