I have a small garden bed of late blooms off to the side of the big veggie garden area. But last few years it has gotten shadier there. In an effort to make more sunshine I had my lawn cutting guy take his chain saw and cut down Serviceberry shrubs there at the very end down to the roots. They will grow back back it will take time.

I am thinking of possibly just moving the daylilies around to the front. Much more light out front. But then maybe its okay now with the shrubs cut back!!

Gotta love 'Very Late' bud builders. Might have to add Late Summer Fling and Barbara to the "get" list.

Waiting to do a bud count on Genesta. Several upcoming days in the fifties are coming. Eighties for the next two days. Spotted a seven way branching on one of the scapes. Still blooming or with buds = Stella's Sparky
Going Bananas, Rosy Returns, Blackeyed Stella, Genesta, Happy Returns and Bitsy with multiple up and coming scapes. Saw last bloom on Apricot Sparkles yesterday.

Found Late Summer Fling - tall and pink blend. I like. Couldn't find Barbara on here, but did see it on the AHS
site. The pic there didn't go with the description of "buff cream self with green throat".
Heidi does yours show the buff cream color?

@josiekid I actually don't have a picture of my back garden except in winter covered in snow. It's long and narrow and hard to get a good picture of during the spring and summer because of the almost dead apple tree. I'll have to make an effort next year to at least take a picture of the part of the garden that's on a hill. The flat part is all raised beds and looks pretty awful because none of them match and the ones for veggies are covered with whatever I have on hand to keep the critters out. I didn't plan it out well so there is barely any space to walk!

I forgot about Going Bananas. I have a bunch of them for solid yellow color so I forget that they rebloom for a long time. Also have a Stella de Oro at the end of the lane still blooming.

My last daylily to bloom was "Barbara, " an introduction by Sheets in 1965l It began the last week of August and the last scape and bloom finished on September 24. I am here on the VA NC border in the Piedmont, so bloom times may vary in other climates. As I have toured various gardens the past few seasons, I find different daylily varieties in bloom in areas with different climates, namely the Tidewater, Piedmont, and Mountains of Va and NC. This has led me to wonder what environmental factors and/or cultural practices contribute to bloom season on daylilies. Does anyone know of a study or publication that covers this topic?

Cookie let's ask Sue
@Sooby If she know of any such study/source.
This might be the last clump shot of Genesta even with many buds still to bloom with the thirties coming.

Sorry to be slow in replying, we were away for a few days. Just to clarify the question, is it why do certain daylilies do well in certain areas and not so much in others, or is it what factor/s cause a specific daylily to bloom at a certain time in different areas, or...?
