I agree farm kids do know how to work but as a youth they had no choice but to work so those values where instilled in them early. Anna I so happy your kids where raised the right way and are good member of society earning a living instead of mooching off others.
I loved watching Dave's youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?... in it he mentions his seven kids where raised in the garden also. Now as many of us know his son Jon has taken it upon himself to sell his daylily seeds on his own website. At his age that's amazing in today's society. But again these examples only a make up a tiny portion of the youth in America and the parents where there to guide him down the right path.
I was raised by my grandparents and they instilled in me both work and family values. I played some video games and I'm not completely against them but there is a limit and most of the parents today don't set limits, again it's easier for them to be occupied with the game then be in their hair. I'm 33 and a lot of other people my age are lazy too not necessarily because of video games but because it was easier for them to watch tv all day then to be bugging them. Don't get me wrong there was many of times I just wanted to sit inside and watch tv or play Mario and Zelda but my grandparents wouldn't allow it and now looking at my peers I'm so grateful they didn't.
My life is far from perfect but I'm not afraid of work. I love my family and respect my elders. I grow a lot of my own food and I listen often more than I talk but the older I get the more vocal I become as evident in some of my posts Hilarious! I guess I'm slowly becoming an elder myself, the only thing I wish I could fix is my patients with hard headed people but the older I get the more I understand that the world is never going to be what I want it to be. instead I have to accept the fact it's a world filled with greed, sin, lust, and laziness and I can only do what I can to teach my kids not to become a product of today's society.

ediblelandscapingsc said:I just know there are a lot of 20 something year old adults that sit around all day and play video games. Excuse me walk around and play video games all day now. They don't work, still live with mom, and have no desire to better their life beside making it to the next level on the game and they wonder why their parent's house is going into foreclosure. If you are over 18 and live with your parents you need to put the games away and get a job. I don't care if you are in school and if not then get 2 jobs. To whoever can't see how lazy America is getting just look around. The youth that does work hate their jobs and it's evident anytime you walk into a fast food chain or a retail store. they will either be hidden in a corner texting, saying they can't wait to get off, or walking around slower than a slug. I was going to say turtle but that would be giving them too much credit. Now everyone is applauding games like pokemon go because it get's there kids outside and active. Well maybe the parents should have stop being crappy parents and got the kids outside and active a long time ago but it's easier to put a game in there hands and say have it because the parents are too lazy themselves to deal with children. I know there are times when the youth will surprise us by working hard or are taking pride in their work but you'll only be lying to yourself if you say they are not few and far between.

I can't argue with anything there, Daniel... i know 'good' jobs are hard to come by, but I think far too many young people just won't accept starting at the bottom and working their way up. So they don't get a job at all, and continue to live with their parents. i really can't comprehend why the parents continue to enable them -- learning to stand on your own 2 feet is necessary for having a sense of self worth.

On the other hand -- it's occurred to me that we should be retired when we're young and then work in our later years, when we can no longer do all the crazy fun stuff! Maybe that's the direction our society is going?

So if they are in their 20's not going to school, not working, playing video games all day who's to blame if they still live with their parents? I blame that generation of parents who want to be friends with their kids, making their lives easy, instead of parenting.

I agree too! When did parents start thinking they had to be "best friends" with their kids? Oh... probably with my generation, the Baby Boomers -- we all still think we're the same age as the kids are...

I love the baby boomers for what they contributed to the world. Good food, good art, good tunes, love, and community to name a few. I blame the dead beat dads from the 80's, 90's and up leaving everything up to single parent moms. Moms by nature are loving creatures and dads are typically the law enforcers of the house. Too many times I've seen kids walk all over their mom and she's so whooped from providing for the kids she don't have the energy to deal with them. Boys are the worst with treating their moms like crap. The best friend thing from what I've seen here in the south is mostly mom and daughter relationships. Honestly those daughters seem to be doing more for self than the boys lacking a positive father figure in their life to teach them how to be a man. Moms can't teach a boy to be a man because they don't know how to. Thus we are left with a lazy gender natural society. Think it's bad now give it 20 more years.
I also blame the government for the youth being lazy. I honestly believe in the words "ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country." But that's all out the window now days because the government gives way too many people a free ride only contributing to America being more and more lazy! If there wasn't food stamps, welfare and government housing a lot more people would get off their butts and start working, and growing their own food. Even in urban areas they would have to help in community gardens to eat if they didn't make enough money to buy food. I think it would make our nation a stronger one and only the ones with real disabilities should be able to benefit from government aids. Then maybe just maybe all of us that do work will someday have some social security waiting on us when we reach that point.

One of the worst things I heard from my friend,
"I have to hang up now. [My son] wants some ice cream"
"Oh! Where you going for ice cream?"
"I have some in the freezer"
"He's 17. Can't he get his own ice cream?"
"He likes me to get it for him"

Confused Confused Confused Confused Confused

That mom is not doing his future wife any favors!!!

Two things I told my husband very early in our relationship:
"Will you iron my shirts for me?"
"I don't iron my own shirts, why would I do it for you?"

"I need new a jock, will you buy me one?"
"I'm a girl. What do I know about jock straps?"
"My mom used to buy mine all the time."
"Get a mom. I'm your wife!"

D'Oh! D'Oh! D'Oh! D'Oh! D'Oh! D'Oh! D'Oh!

Hilarious! Sometimes I do go a little off topic but there's no conflict or disputes just a friendly conversation about the youth and pokemon go.

Cheryl that is too funny, "Will you iron my shirts for me?"
"I don't iron my own shirts, why would I do it for you?" Rolling on the floor laughing Hilarious!

Pokemon Go will have its 15 seconds of Fame. Kids these days have little attention span and they like instant gratification. The game company will have to keep changing it up to keep them interested as they are also very good and talented with technology. They will get the hang of it quickly and get bored. They will have to keep them challenged or else, it will be on to bigger and better things with them.

Well ---- my significant other when I asked her if she knew how to darn socks said, you should probably just buy others.
I said these are ones I use in my boots in for shoveling snow and I do mean shoveling, and they have outlasted a half dozen others and keep my feet warm and dry.
She did them for me.
Only pair I ever wanted it done to.
You just have to know how to use and apply the weepy little boy look.

Met my first Pokémon people (players) today and was surprised to learn that the 3 teens live in the neighborhood. I have never seen them before and I've lived here 1000 years.
