Everybody, stop getting hurt! I'm going to try my best not to contract the Zika virus.
I had a little fighter jet Skipper myself, yesterday. A lot of the time, they hold their wings together, but when they bask, they open them up to absorb the sunlight. So I guess they're solar-powered fighter jets!
I also released another Black Swallowtail. I laid down to take a nap yesterday about 1pm when I heard something fall. It was this guy falling from whatever he had perched on. His wings were extended, but not dried. I keep dead sticks in the critter keeper for this very reason. Since I was super comfortable, I muttered, "Get on the stick. Get on the stick!" It took a few seconds, but he did, and you can see he came out just fine. Flew away and everything.
I need to catch up on my backlog of photos, but for now, just know that I got egg bombed by a Sulphur. And then it happened again. I don't even know how many I have. But here are some I found yesterday with an egg to boot! I circled the egg in purple and the two cats in red so you can see them.
So today I came home from the movies ("Star Trek Beyond") and there was a Gray Hairstreak on my porterweed! I don't see Hairstreaks as often as I'd like.
I don't know what plant this Spicebush ST has been in, but can you see the pollen (mostly on the upper left wing)? I wish I had Dr. Doolittle powers so I could ask what she's been pollinating
Gulf Frits are always here.
This looks like a Monk Skipper but it's a little on the small side. I've had small ones before, though.
So I've also been getting egg bombed on my Pipevine. Mostly by Pipevine STs, but also Polydamas. Or in this case, both.
Seriously, this is nuts. I was shaking my head out there like, "Crazy butterflies!" The yellowish eggs are Polydamas, the reddish-orange are Pipevine.
And here's some more Pipevine eggs and a caterpillar I found.
