Really? You don't get Golden Orb spiders much? I have too many! We don't get little toads or frogs like you have- what is it Sally?
"My work is loving the world. Here the sunflowers, there the hummingbird — equal seekers of sweetness. Here the clam deep in the speckled sand. Are my boots old? Is my coat torn? Am I no longer young, and still not half-perfect? Let me keep my mind on what matters, which is my work which is mostly standing still and learning to be astonished." — Mary Oliver, from Messenger

I think the frog is Hyla versicolor. I will edit to add a link from computer. Still here this morning. Maybe she waits for any mosquitoes that might come to the water
Thumb of 2016-08-06/sallyg/aa4017

Or a Cope's grey tree frog- interesting link.

Please send some yellow and black spiders! I've had plenty of black widows. I blame those on the decrepit horse barn property that used to be behind us, and was removed and developed into houses, guessing some came from there.
Plant it and they will come.

J, those are neat pics of the dragonflies, but Wow! what cool rocks they are perched on.

Sally, you actually have two argiope species in MD

http://www.spiders.us/species/...

I ran across this link while looking at Argiope aurantia habitat and range.

http://argiope.se/test/ Who knew there was an "adoption agency" for spiders???

I agree- really special pretty rocks, jmorth.

Thanks moonhowl- I think I've only seen aurantia.

You really CAN find almost anything on the internet- I guess aside from hobbyists, people may need insect eggs to study the insects.
Plant it and they will come.

I hear ya. I watched a bunch of humming birds fight over 3 feeders. They were so busy fighting they didn't even notice me. They were smashing into each other and squawking and chittering with great ferocity. While watching them, an egret flew over and I thought about the nearly vicious hummers being the size of the egret....it was a chilling thought. Rolling my eyes. Smiling

Finally catching up on pictures! Here's some I took at the house since I got back from vacation last Saturday.

I don't know what this is on the Spanish Needles, but it looks cool.

Thanks, Robin! I've seen that same variety of spider in the corner of the house where our lanai is. That's on the opposite side of where I found this one. I wonder if they're a common species?
