Is this a hosta?



If it is, an identification would be great, though even a statement that yes there are hostas that look like this will be appreciated.

Bought in a pot that read "perennial". It sure does grow like a hosta, though it didn't bloom this year, hence I'd better ask.

Certainly looks like one to me. Maybe an immature Lancifolia? That's purely a guess.

The leaves are too narrow to be Lancifolia. Also, Lancifolia has red in the petiole. Is it possible to post a picture of the lower half of the plant?

Are you sure about the red in lancifolia? I've never heard of that nor seen it.
I DID say immature. You can't really define a hosta by the immature leaves. Of course, if it said "hosta" it could just be an unnamed hosta seedling that popped up somewhere.

Virtually all of my Lancifolia have red in the petiole, whether it's a 1-year or 10+ year old plant The other thing I'm going on is vein count. Those in @3Mark 's photo only appear to be 3-4 vein pairs, whereas Lancifolia has 5-7 pairs.

I cannot say much about the age of these plants. I got them earlier this year, they were tiny when bought, just a few small leaves each without any central point to them, but they sure had a lot of roots. The largest leaf was growing through the draining hole in the pot...

Well, as I said, I'm not an expert on lancifolia - it's not in my garden, but immature leaves will often have fewer veins and in the first picture directly above, there are 4 vein pairs. But it could easily be something else.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure it out. I know lancifolia because we literally have it everywhere! It's a great little utility plant. It doesn't matter if you need a quick border or to fill a hole. It's there, ready willing and growing!

The vein pair count typically changes as the plant matures, sure looks like a hosta to me! Think its a Lancifolia

If the leaves have red spots in the stem, it may well be lancifolia. It looks like it's getting ready to bloom, which is the right time of year for lancifolia. The flower should be a light lavender in color.

I have literally several hundred lancifolia around the yard in bloom now. The bees are lovin' it!

For the record, I'll just say that another 2 weeks later (Sept. 25th), one bud finally opened:
