Hilarious! Haven't ever thrown away flowers with unpleasant fragrance but I sure have removed a couple from the house.
Can't stand the scent of hyacinths! Their fragrance is just too strong and gives me a headache.
I also have one particular white NOID HT which my DH cannot abide - he says it smells like stale beer! Not allowed to cut those for the house anymore Hilarious!

I have never brought lilacs into the house and I can't abide the smell even outside. I have some lilac bushes, but I have to run past them when they're in bloom. Mock Orange blooms smelled so bad to me that I had to dig up the bushes. My neighbor has a big privet hedge, and although the blooms don't smell particularly bad, I can't go near the hedge when it's in bloom because I have a peculiar reaction, similar to a panic attack. Carolina Jessamine does not grow anywhere near me now, but when I lived in Piedmont, I had to close all the windows when it was in bloom. The smell was so strong and so cloying that it kept me awake at night.

Boxwood is the plant that bowls me over. And Stargazer lilies.
I love the Mary Rose perfume, though! Funny how several of us are much more sensitive to scents than average people. If my allergies are already fired up, I know to stay away from crowds. My nightmare is to get on a train with someone wearing strong perfume. I think that's why I avoid indoor parties---the perfumes and aftershaves just suffocate me, actually make me dizzy.
Over the weekend, we got another 3" rain. Yesterday I pulled more weeds, and weed trees, and really made progress. Then I tried planting some of the roses that have been in pots for 2 months. The ground is saturated 2 feet down! I'll try again today. Our soil normally drains wonderfully, but we've had a record amount of rain in the past 3 weeks. I really need to get these roses in the ground soon.

What sensitive noses you must all have! About the only flower I really don't like the smell of is the chrysanthemum - in part perhaps because in France (where I spent a good part of my childhood) they are used only at funerals, so they remind me of death. Blinking I do agree that hyacinths are a bit much - but I like them outside!

Ironically, one of the arguments against smoking is that it deadens the sense of smell. If so, then I can only be happy that I've been smoking for more than 60 years. Otherwise, these smells might knock me dead! Hilarious!

A lot of fragrances I enjoy outdoors are a different story inside. Last year my brugmansia was in bloom when I brought it inside for winter, and the only room with big windows and enough light for it is my bedroom. The blooms don't smell too strong during the day, but that night...whoa! It gave me a headache and I had to move it to the hallway.

The weather is taking a sudden turn today. We've been seeing cooler nights but day temps have still been pretty hot. It was quite warm and muggy this morning but now the sky is cloudy and it has cooled dramatically, like long sleeves cool! Feels like autumn has really arrived Hurray!

Mums and sedum are putting on a show here, too. I desperately need to find about 5 people who really know what they are doing to come help me divide daylilies, iris and peonies. Several roses need to be relocated to sunnier spots, and a gazillion perennials need to be deadheaded.
Feeling pretty proud that I have the weeds under control.
Tonight I'm going to google how to clone myself so I can get my work done because nobody will want to dig in the mud for the $1.25 an hour I can afford to pay. And I'm so picky I want the nametags left on the right plants. Thumbs down

I hope so, because $1.25 an hour won't pay for a motel room. Hilarious!

Amanda, my youngest daughter lives in KC Mo and she says the same thing. Sticking tongue out
I had all 3 daughters here for a while last week and none wanted to garden, but they did help me finish a stained glass project. Actually the oldest one brought her boyfriend to meet us, and he did most of the work on the glass. Whatta guy!
Sharlene, my middle daughter thinks she is going to get to move to Switzerland next year so I may come see your beautiful country! That's the same daughter who gave me the awesome opportunity to see all the German rose gardens.
The weather was perfect today and I worked my tail off. I actually feel like I might get caught up. Crossing Fingers!

Amanda ... Don't you want to come out to California and see the Trinity Alps ? We could do that after we do a much smaller yard than Cindi's ...

There are more weeds, but it is a much smaller garden ... Smiling

Hey ... ya' all ... I'll take all the help I can get. I started too many fall projects ... Rolling my eyes.

Cindi ... you could come, too and supervise ... Big Grin
I'd rather weed than dust ... the weeds stay gone longer.

whether a big or small garden, I think sometimes we all feel we could use a little help especially when we have started some sort of project over and above the general garden chores.

@CindiKS - what a wonderful opportunity for you daughter! Does she know where she would be living if she moves here? And if she did move here and you came to visit, we might even land up meeting each other! That would be great!

Sharlene ...

The heat was so nasty this summer, I didn't keep up with the garden. Now, I have to pay the price. The weeds won big time.

Temps are also doing a crazy up and down kind of thing. Day temps have been in the 90s this week and are dropping down to the 50s on Sunday, then back up to the 80s. My fall flush is a mess. We may get some rain this month, but I don't see I first frost until the end of October, so I do have time to do garden work.

I did find out the hard way that I am not going to be able to use wood chips, which are free, as mulch with my high summer temps. They form a crust which inhibits water from reaching the soil. I had mixed them with leaves for mulching the roses to stretch the leaves I had hauled back to the garden. The leaves decomposed in the heat leaving the wood chips. I am sure you can figure out the end result of that experiment. Not good.

I've got to figure out another mulch material. I don't think I am up to hauling enough leaves back to the garden and shredding them any more. Buying mulch up here is incredibly expensive.

I guess I'll use the supply of wood chips on had for paths. It's always something.
I'd rather weed than dust ... the weeds stay gone longer.

My weeds won big time too this year, and I've never used wood chips anywhere but the pathways because they attract so many sowbugs and earwigs. My clematises, in particular, don't stand a chance against those bugs.

Zuzu ... I was trying them because they were free. I have a more arid climate that you do, so I normally am dealing with different bugs. I do have earwigs and sowbugs, but they are not a major problem.

I just wish I had more trees and didn't have to go out and get leaves. Grumbling
