Thanks Sharlene, that's a great way to deal with them! I tip my hat to you. Days are still getting hot here too, and its getting pretty dry out there, but the cool nights have been a relief, both for me and the roses.

Zuzu do you have to call K & M to find out what they charge for shipping? I can't find any pricing info on the web site. It's a great sale, just depends on that shipping.
I'm kind of leery about shipping costs on potted roses because my Northland order was supposed to arrive here today, and instead I have a notice from the post office that I owe $10.27 postage due, after already paying $33 in shipping for 7 roses! $43 sounds high to me.
My regular carrier must have been off today. She would have left the plants and an envelope for the money. I got an email saying there was no secure place to deliver, which is ludicrous. The sub is too lazy to get out of the truck and walk 10 steps to my porch if a package is too big for him to cram into the mailbox.

Cindi, I always order by e-mail. I think the K&M shipping costs are high, but Mr. Mills will give you an estimate of the shipping cost, at which time you can tell him to cancel the order if you don't like the estimate. Fortuniana roses can't be shipped bare root, so they're shipped in gallon containers and that's the reason for the high cost. I think the own-root roses are also in gallon containers. Mr. Mills is such a trusting soul that he doesn't expect payment until the roses have been delivered, at which time you can send him a check or call him with your credit card number.

You're closer to K&M, so the shipping costs might not be as high for you as they are for me.

I can't believe Northland charges that much to ship little band roses.

Today is the Day of Democracy. The Rose of the Day is Demokracie, a sport of Blaze that's better known to most of us as Blaze Improved.

I sent K&M an e-mail, asking whether the own-root Archduke Charles and Clothilde Soupert were still available. I couldn't resist the possibility of buying these roses for $8 apiece. Here's the response I received:

"These roses are in 2 gal containers. We can't ship 2gal to ca. Our2 gal soil doesn't meet your soil certification thanks"

Oh, well. Too bad, but I can't help being glad that my state has these soil restrictions. I'm sure they have helped in keeping Japanese beetles and other pests out of our state. This is great news for people in other states, however. It means that you can buy own-root roses in 2-gallon containers for just $8.

Andrew - that is a lovely rose. I really like the colour. It almost looks like the reverse is cream? If you could post a couple more pics showing the reverse and the whole plant maybe we could start guessing Smiling You never know, somebody might just be able to put a name to your NOID Big Grin

Hmmm. The calendar on my phone said today is Free Fries Friday. Do you have a rose for that?

Today another 2" rain fell on us. Too bad I didn't get all my potted roses into the ground yesterday. The reason I didn't? I didn't want to get hoses out and drag them around. Sticking tongue out

No roses with French fries or spuds or potatoes in any form in their names, Cindi.

Andrew, maybe your rose is Gypsy Carnival.

Zuzu I think you're too good at this game! Green Grin!

Thank you for taking the time.

Edit:

After looking at the other pics in the database I don't think mine have that many petals.

I'll check them out tomorrow after work and count them.

Those are the exact colors though, and mine do wind up looking red and white after they are fully opened.

Looked at Delbard roses this morning... Wonder if anyone would mind me setting up a rose bed or two in the local park?? Sighing!
