Today is the International Day of Peace. Peace, therefore, is our Rose of the Day.

Such a classic rose! My mother used to put an arrangement of roses on the Sunday dinner table. The scent of Peace filled the house.

Even though it is an oldie, it is still one of my favourites. It is the first rose I see every day when I get home, next to the driveway. Out of all the names this rose has (aka Gloria Dei and Madame A. Meilland) I think 'Peace' it the most fitting!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
The adoption of the trade name "Peace" was publicly announced in the United States on 29 April 1945 by the introducers, Messrs Conard Pyle Co. This was the very day that Berlin fell, a day considered a turning point in the Second World War in Europe.[1] Later that year Peace roses were given to each of the delegations at the inaugural meeting of the United Nations in San Francisco, each with a note which read:
"We hope the 'Peace' rose will influence men’s thoughts for everlasting world peace".

Speaking of Peace, what about the famous sports? I don't grow 'Chicago Peace' but I do have 'Flaming Peace' (aka Kronenbourg)

It does look rather fiery next to Peace - probably a more apt depiction of the world situation theses days Sad

I was unaware of Flaming Peace, I love it! I've always found a second color on the petal reverse very intriguing. For some reason I've never grown Peace. I love soft yellow with pink, so I'm not sure why. I think when I've considered it in the past I've thought it may not perform well here because I rarely seen one growing in the area.

When I searched in our Rose Database for Peace for the Rose of the Day picture, I was surprised to see how many roses we have with "peace" in their names and how many of them I'm growing. Not all of them are related to the original 'Peace,' but many are.

Here are the sports:

Here are my other :"peace" roses:

Clearly, I'm swayed by the names of roses when I'm shopping.for plants. Hilarious!

All the colors of the most perfect sunset! Simply glorious seeing them all together like that!

I was just perusing the gardens and pulling a few weeds and discovered a lovely cluster of blooms on Buff Beauty! It was planted this spring, an own root plant from Chamblee's that I wasn't expecting to see bloom till next year. Nice, softly spicy fragrance and such a lovely color! It has put on a lot of growth this summer too, and looks like it could become a beast! That's fine though, I positioned it where it can get quite large if its inclined to do so.

Buff Beauty blooms -- what a wonderful fall surprise! Buff Beauty can become a beast, so it's a good thing you planted it with that in mind.

Zuzu, Buff Beauty is mostly a once blooming variety isn't it? Seems I've read it has sporadic repeat bloom. I figured it would need to be established before I'd see that happen anyway, so I was happily surprised!

No, it's a reliable rebloomer here, but you probably shouldn't be influenced by anything that's observed in my zone. Just yesterday I noticed a few blooms on my once-blooming Yellow Lady Banks. Blinking

My Seven Sisters has yet to bloom!
Today is my oldest daughter's birthday, and all three of my kids are here at once, which is a rare event. My Rose of the day is 'Happy'. Lovey dubby

Zuzu, wonderful seeing all of those on one page! There is actually quite a long list of Peace sports on HMF but a lot are not commercially available and 7,613 unique descendant in 14 generations. A lot of our roses have Peace somewhere in their background.

Neal I have just order Buff Beauty and hope it doesn't become too much of a monster! Big Grin

Cindi, hope you have a great day celebrating your daughter's birthday! Hurray! Hurray!

Looks yummy - hope you all had your ice cream cone the other day Big Grin I didn't but I wouldn't mind one right now or even just a bowl of ice cream! Drooling but none in the house Sad and for good reason Whistling

Sadly, autumn has arrived and with it the fog/mist. We live in an area renowned for dense fog and we can go days on end without seeing the sun. Yesterday was a day like that! Beautiful sunny weather up in the mountains without a cloud in the sky and down here just GREY! Puts a damper on things!
This morning started off the same but just after lunch Hurray! the mist lifted and I just had to take a couple of pics

Don't know about the rest of you but I walk around my garden numerous times every day (even when its misty and grey). Most of you probably do as well. Suppose it's just what passionate gardeners do Big Grin

It is just a joy seeing how plants develop

The blooms are a little sparse at the moment but there are tons of buds! If the weather holds like it did last year, we'll have another good flush.
Evelyne Dheliat and Purple Lodge have already started.

Sharlene, both of those purple/mauve photos are particularly lovely to me!

I see previously unnoticed blooms with every stroll through the garden, cooler nights are bringing some nice quality blooms and fragrance.

Zuzu, this morning I noticed some newly open blooms on Mary Rose and stuck my nose to one. I hadn't detected it with blooms earlier in the season, but that cloying cold cream smell hit me in the face this time! It turned my stomach, but thankfully Summer Romance is blooming nearby with a great classic rose scent to clear the yuck from my nose Hilarious!

There is a lot of ragweed blooming around here now and making me sneeze a lot. When my allergies are acting up my nose gets really sensitive, things smell extra strong to me and I detect scents no one else can smell. I think that had something to do with getting that sickening sensation. Last week I unpacked a box of cut flowers for a wedding and a foul smell hit me when I opened the box. There were 2 bunches of limonium, an airy, fine textured type of statice that makes a nice filler flower. It's known for having an off odor, but this time it made me gag. At first I put them on the other side of the room, but kept smelling it, then I tossed them out the back door! That's the first time I've ever thrown away flowers because of the smell! Hilarious!
