Val, I don't think I'll be the least bit surprised, lol! I have a good 2,000-4,000 daylily seeds, maybe more! Then add in all of the other seeds and.... Yeah....I could probably fill up an entire floor of my house with grow lights/shelves and not have enough. Rolling my eyes.

Deciding which seeds make the cut and which ones don't is a tough job, but someone's gotta do it. (And it can't be my husband or I would only have seeds enough to fill ONE shelf. And we all know One just is not enough... Hilarious! )

Hi Julie!

I can't tell one seed from another, and I would probably try to germinate cracked peppercorns if someone sprinkled some in the bottom of a box.

But here is a site that tries to post usable pictures of seeds, and maybe some seed pods:

Can anyone suggest a good informational site on how to start different kinds of seeds? How do you keep all the info straight? I'm thinking of trying annuals for my two back beds and I have lots of things to try. Do you go out with a chart on instructions for each? Confused

I usually check Tom Clothier for complicated things.
http://tomclothier.hort.net/

I also have a much shorter chart that I downloaded years ago. Originally it was from T&M, but they have not maintained it online in many years. I found it here recently:

http://www.virtualseeds.com/Ge...
and here:
http://www.backyardgardener.co...

P.S. Back when I didn't know what that "stratification" stuff was for, I just skipped it because I wanted to raise some Delphiniums now and read up on perennials later. Sometimes that works. Maybe I only got 20-30% germination, and maybe it was slow, but I got some seedlings without either using the refrigeration or winter sowing.

Maybe I just got lucky. Maybe some seeds that "need cold moist stratification" really only need it if you want better than 20% germination. Maybe very old, or very fresh Delphinium seeds have less dormancy than advertised. And now I usually do a pre-soak in dilute hydrogen peroxide.

But as with many gardening things that "everyone knows" - consider trying it the other way, with a few seeds. You might get lucky, too.

You're right, and I realized that as soon as the petunia seeds were positively identified; the columbine seeds should definitely have been darker than that. I already removed them from my swap list entirely. Smiling Thanks for the sharp eye!

Wow, I've missed alot here in the last couple of days. What can I say? Halloween, lol. Anyway, congratulations to the winners of the NARR. Ya'll did great! :)

I believe patrob is from tx which comes in handy for me. She has quite a bit that works here in oklahoma for me. I always like being in swaps with her. She's got some great things to offer that work with my heat. It's been really nice to see such a great assortment of zones here in the swap. It seems there is something for everyone. I'm getting so excited. It all begins tomorrow! Yay!

If either of you are looking to add more daylily seeds to your wishlist, keep an eye out and plan to increase those numbers! I'm raiding my daylily seed stash today. I wasn't going to put more seed packets in because it is so difficult creating the pictures for them, but I'm banking on the fact that they will be a big hit again, like the last swap, and that others in the swap might be willing to look up the daylily parents in the database or even bid on them sight unseen just for fun. Rolling my eyes.

Lol, Pistil... I have YOU beat. 124 on my list. I always include extras for those things I don't manage to get. ;)

But you would be surprised how much of it you do manage to get planted. Last year I did over 2500 plants. This year will be close.

Dear Lalalambchop & Agoo;

Thank you for the warm welcome to N.G.A.! I really am happy to be here! There is a lot of confusion regarding my specific time for the seed swap to begin. One site tells me that there is a 7-8 hour time difference between GMT & EST. Another tells me I am four hours behind. Could someone please help me with this? I think I get it that in my time zone the seed swap starts today (November 1st.) But- what time?

This sounds like SO MUCH fun! I really don't want to miss it. Is it 24/7, or are there certain hours that the swap will be in progress each of the days? Thank you so much for your help! I am in Ohio.

Blessings;

Queen Dreama

Queen, once the swap goes, it is continuous until the end, although you are awarded new tickets at the 'beginning' of each day....which happens to be in the evenings Eastern Time here in the US. (You and I are in the same time zone.) Smiling

Because we are still in Daylight Savings Time, it starts at 8pm this evening, Eastern Time. Thumbs up

HELP! I'm on the verge of throwing in the towel. I now realize that there is no way to really shop all the posted seeds b/c it takes too long too look up pictures and Google all the science names. But with the ones I did star I can't remember how to select them when this starts in 2 hrs. I tried to find the video Rick did to watch it again but when I click on the link it says the video is not available. Do you think I should just wait until Wednesday or so and look at what's left? Not sure.

Hello! You will need to go to your wishlist. There you will see all the plants you selected with the stars. When the swap begins you will have tickets to spend. Next to your wishlist items a treasure chest will appear. You click the treasure chest to claim the seeds. You will only see the treasure chest and tickets when the swap begins, which is why you won't see/find it now. I hope that helps!

Terri,
When the swap starts go to your wishlist. Everything you've already starred will be there. The ones you most wanted (5 stars) will be on top. Next to each item will be a treasure chest. Just click on (or tap if you are on a phone or tablet) the icon and you will have placed a dib on it. The computer will let you know if you got it.

If you can't remember how many tickets you have left just go to the top of your wishlist and it will tell you. ***You may have to refresh the page to see the correct number!***

As people dib on your seeds you will earn partial tickets. So always check after you think you used all your tickets because you might get more!

Cross posted!

@acacius48 Thank YOU. Yes, that is just what I needed to know. I wonder why the video doesn't come up anymore? Now that you mention the treasure chest I do remember mention of it but didn't realize that it would not appear until right at start time. Thank You!
