Goodbye my love goodbye
Goodbye and au revoir
Westerland is no more! I carried out the unpleasant task today. It was already here when we moved in 10 years ago, growing in a totally inappropriate spot and it was really battling so I potted and pampered it for a year and then planted it out into the garden where it has spent the last 8 years. A couple of weeks ago, I notice that a new basal shoot looked a little off colour so I had a closer look. On removing the soil around the crown I discovered this ..
This is the second case of crown gall that I have had and that just three months after the first. This is also in a different section of the garden which is actually a little worrying. It looks like I just have to accept the fact that this bacteria is present in our garden! Now I know what to look for but I hope I don't see it again.
Zuzu, at least seeing your rose selection for today cheered me up a little. I am not familiar with Thanksgiving (any of them because I see there are two more roses that go by that name) but Christopher Columbus is a rose that I can really recommend. Always puts on a stunning show here!
