Great photos, Sue.

My resources for the rose of the day are limited. I couldn't use Alice Bracegirdle or Fancy Pants for Suspenders Day because we don't have any photos of those roses in our database.

JD, we didn't have a HagFish Day celebration here this year, but I was sure you'd be dancing around the hagfish pole and bobbing for hagfish down in Long Beach. Sorry you missed it.

Thumbs up my sentiments exactly and what better way to pass the time during the winter months ahead Shrug!

Rolling on the floor laughing Mike - don't think Tony Bracegirdle's wife, Alice, would appreciate that? Rolling on the floor laughing

On a serious note, Tony Bracegirdle is a very accomplished amateur hybridizer.

@Calif_Sue
Suzanne - gorgeous blooms. Love the iris and that foxglove is beautiful - haven't ever seen one quite like it.

Not much left to show in the way of blooms in the garden here. I might still see a couple of roses and one or two iris bloom. I have a few stalks but they probably won't open if the weather stays cool. I actually started the cutting back yesterday. Got rids of all the yellow hosta leaves and if the rain lets up today, I plan to do the asters and phlox. Otherwise, it's going to be a lazy Sunday .....

Today is United Nations Day. The Rose of the Day is the United Nations Rose, more commonly known as Peacekeeper.

This beautiful Harkness floribunda regularly produces many blooms in a calming blend of apricot and peach shades. The official stated height is 2-3 feet, but it's about 4 feet tall in my garden.

Weren't Rosie O'Donnelly and Maria Shriver each talk show hosta?
I also look forward to your calendar roses, Zuzu.

What a lovely rose!

There is an interesting note on the origin of the UN under this rose on HMF. I was actually trying to find out how this rose, bred in 1994, came by its name. Turns out it was to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the UN.

Found this reference under
https://www.una.org.uk/sites/d...

The ‘Peacekeeper Rose’ was a project initiated in 1990 by David Wardrop and Myriel Davies, to mark the 50thanniversary of the UN, still five years ahead. After much work, and co-operation with Mr Harkness who bred the rose, it was previewed at the New York Flower Show in February 1995 and launched at the Chelsea Flower Show the same year. It won two international gold medals and
remains in catalogues to this day.

I love apricot blend roses. I went through a red rose phase, an orange rose phase, and a mauve rose phase and then arrived at apricot as my favorite. I've never gone through a yellow rose or white rose phase. I have some of each of those, but I usually don't seek them out.

Cindi, I could have used that input before yesterday. Rosie O'Donnell had just been featured as our Rose of the Day earlier this month, but we do have some pictures of Maria Shriver. National TV Talk Show Host Day is on Johnny Carson's birthday, so my mind was stuck on hosts of his caliber.

Sorry Zuzu! I just thought of Rosie because I am toying with buying that rose from K&M on fortuniana. My local Rose society strongly discouraged me from trying that rootstock, saying it isn't hardy, but I keep reading posts from gardeners in Tennessee and KY who swear it grows for them.
I also felt like giving Rosie a boost after hearing he-who-must-not-be-named rudely disparage her once again.
If I buy the K&M roses, I'll have to keep them in pots in the garage for this winter and plant them next spring.

I have a Rosie O'Donnell on fortuniana. It's bigger than my other Rosie O'Donnells (on Dr. Huey and own-root). I know what you mean about the disparagement. I never liked her much until she became his victim.

UN/Peacekeeper is gorgeous! Its one of those blends that put me in mind of sunsets- I LOVE them!

Stunning photos Suzanne!

The ivory sport I thought I was seeing on Golden Fairy Tale turned out to be like the rest of the plant. 2 days ago it shown like a beacon, so white among the yellow blooms on the rest of the plant. Yesterday the bloom opened completely and looks as yellow as the rest. It is blooming like mad with lots of buds still coming. It really is a blooming machine, I haven't even dead headed it all summer.

Too bad you didn't discover a sport, but it sounds as if she is a pleasing plant nonetheless.

Neal,
How big is your Golden Fairy Tale? Don't you have several of the Fairy Tales? How big are the others? I used to have Caramella and one other, and they got so big I had to dig them and move them. They didn't survive the move, so I ordered more from Palatine. My Brothers Grimm is a good size already, after one year in the ground, and it is planted where it only gets rain water. The others will be here in 3 weeks, and I'm really not sure where I'm planting them. I can put them by Brothers Grimm, down by the pond, or if they stay smaller, I can plant them up by the house where they get more care. But then, more care means larger growth! Rolling my eyes.
