In our heat, the later blooming ones can do well in a bed that receives afternoon shade.

A good point, Rob, about the shaded areas being good for the lates. But...no rain here in the summer....(sigh)

I have Thundery planted against an east wall of the house. It receives only about three hours of good shade after the trees leaf out. It is in a very dry area and each year I think 'gonna lose that one' as it is the furthest away from a water source. But every spring it seems to come to life vigorously and bloom well and late. I can sit on the screened porch and watch the sunrise through its blooms without getting chilled.
Thro' all the tumult and the strife I hear the music ringing; It finds an echo in my soul— How can I keep from singing?

Mine is under shade too. Good to hear it likes to rebound every spring. Thumbs up

I planted Thundery this year and I am very excited to see it bloom when the time comes. I only had one late bloomer last spring and it's a NOID at the moment. I did order a bunch more late ones so I guess I'll have to see if that will work out here.

I have one bed that's designated for mostly late bloomers or Mid to late, and it's so nice to have one colorful bed still going when the others are kind of ended. Otherwise I had one here and one there, and it just wasn't as pretty to look at them scattered all over the place. I really have been giving the late and very late ones a closer look lately.

I never look at the when I buy, but guess I should. I wish they all ran very late and could compliment my daylilies, oriental, LA, and asiatics aka rabbit dessert.
I would like to do something like that, but threw em all in as a big happy family. Next year's dig should be more organized. It MUST be more organized!
Gimme it and I'll grow it!

The online catalog is up for those who don't know yet! Naturally I already placed my order Big Grin I was a little disappointed that many of the medians I was interested in from last year's catalog are not being offered this year. Oh well, still happy with what was available.

Here's how it works:
1. Send list of what you wish to order directly to tempo two through email.
2. Send credit card to be charged at time of shipping to include shipping since they would know that amount until then. If you would prefer paypal they can bill that way as well.
3. They send your info and rhizomes to Mid-America in February and it is forwarded to you through them, no need to contact Mid-America at all.

Liz, glad to hear you were so quick off the mark! It's really worth emailing TT to ask about irises you want that aren't in the catalogue. As I think I mentioned, Barry responded to a query of mine about an iris that wasn't in last year's catalogue by sending it to me. Haven't met him, but I think he's a sweetie. Smiling

And are you going to let us know what you ordered???????????

While up North the very lates are really good for Liz and Tom and such, but they really have a hard time here in NC as a norm because it is too hot by the time they bloom. Which means they bloom and shrivel up in about a day. Or you get the dry husk buds. This year was not the norm in that everything started early. The LA's and JI's were right with the TB's instead of later.

Saw the online catalogue and those are some dandies indeed. Tough choices as I still want some from last year.

What's fun is reading the hybridizer notes. Some many seedling, exercising the possibilities by the thousands for some crosses. Wish I had that real estate. The intros can come out for the next 100 years and still beat the competition.
Gimme it and I'll grow it!

The ones from last year are kind of a steal in my opinion which is why I mostly focused on those.
