[quote="extranjera"]I bought this at a street sale the other night because I thought it looked like something I had seen here. Now, I don't think so. What do you think it is? It's looking a little sad because I forgot it was in the back of the jeep and it has been out there since Monday night. I guess I'll have to pot it up and wait to see what it does.

Wow, Jonna, that is fascinating! Lucky you to have found it and at a street sale no less. It has the branching growth pattern of a Rhipsalis, but I am not familiar with the particular plant you have there, at least that I remember. It will be interesting to see what it does.

My Samba Brazil opened it's first bloom this week. If you don't have this Schlumbergera, you need to get it. It's stunning!

So let me ask those of you who are seriously into Schlumbergera: What characteristics do you like the best? Do you like them more reflexed (they look like they are screaming) or do you like them a little more relaxed (they look like they are flying). Do you like large flowers? Is it the color that hooks you? Do you like the bush type plants that are more upright, or do you like a basket plant that cascades?

I'm doing a little hybridizer market research. I personally prefer a larger, more rounded flower that is a bit more relaxed. (Polka Dancer is a very nice example of this.) Just wanted to see what the rest of you thought.

I prefer the relaxed type of flower. However, everything else is no preference ... I like all colors, upright and pendant forms and anything else about them. I just plain old like them. Big Grin

I like to buy the one with tons of buds that haven't opened yet, because I know they will and I will get to enjoy them all Smiling Color not that important, as long as I have something blooming in the house in the winter I'm good. Of course, the dining room table is always graced with fresh, fragrant roses from the garden up until Christmas, and then shortly after that I prune all my roses, and see no more roses on the table till late March to mid April. My sister just called. It's snowing at there house as we speak. Makes me want to get up and make a pan of fudge! =)

Colors is what gets me. But I think I also prefer the cascading type. I am working on a succulent and cactus bed at the moment and am considering incorporating a hanging pot of some kind so I can include a Schlumbergera. I love that Samba Brazil!

This is my new holiday cactus Smiling It's all salmony. I received cuttings last year but survived. The one next to it is my red/pink from last year. I have to find some more colors.
