Question for those who own and grow: Where is a good place to buy starter plants from? I don't necessarily need anything named but I would love to have different colors. I have a display idea that is going to be our Christmas tree (using the fund set aside for it.) It'll work with what I have but I'd like a few more colors.)

I have Fuchsia, Dark Pink/Red, White(?), and the one Salmon one pictured. I was going to buy a Christmas Fantasy (love the color) and a named Yellow (that was missing it's tag) today but noticed the plants they had all had scale.

Wonderful Holiday Cactus blooms everyone! I have/had six or so plants for quite a few years but I don't know what's still alive out on my deck, some of them were dropping stems and leaves like crazy over the summer from severe neglect. Mine don't have names, they were all purchased from Home Depot or Wal-Mart over the years. I sometimes stick pieces of broken stems in whichever pot is nearby and have had a few multiple colors blooming at once. My favorite colors are the deep, dark pink, light pink and the white varieties, the coral being my least favorite although that might change after seeing some of the pretty ones pictured here! These were all in bloom last December and January.

Pretty, Lin. I love them even without blooms. I just like the looks of them. I think some of mine are in the database. Cuttings from my white one are budding. Hilarious! I haven't focused too much on blooms this year so I'll have to see what develops.

I tip my hat to you.

Sherry has a lot of good info and also some lovely plants. I do hope she will put them in the database.

Yes, indeed I will. I have some early bloomers, but will post pictures as they bloom. Is the database set up to accept individually named Schlumbergeras, or is it just under one umbrella entry?

Edited to add: Never mind. If I had just taken the time to look, I would have seen that there are individual entries. I'll get pictures in them as I get them. Smiling

Sherry: The database has a lot of Schlum's with no photo's or info yet and needs your lovely photo's and any information you can add! Here's the link to the entries and named cultivars etc.:

One of my two plants is currently blooming, but I don't know where it would go in the database:

I also have a red holiday cactus that should start blooming in a couple of days. I've had it for probably ten years. These pics were from last year at Christmas:

I would really like to add them to the database, but I don't know where! Any ideas?

For starters, they could go under Schlumbergera truncata and then maybe into another specific cultivar.

Thanks, Song. I thought they were probably S. truncata, but I was hoping for more specific.

Everyone's plants on this thread are really pretty - makes me want to go out & buy more!

Sherry and some of the others with more recognition of the various cultivars than I will probably recognize them. But if not, S. truncata is a place to start anyway. They certainly are lovely. Lovey dubby Lovey dubby

Beautiful, Ang.

I got a good laugh this morning when I went down to the garage where most of the things are over-wintering and found these cuttings stuck away but still getting ready to bloom. I'd almost forgotten about them. Hilarious!
