Very pretty colors, tikipod. So many buds!

I like that you wrote on the stems, Song. I'll have to remember that trick!

When is the best time to cut them back- right after they finish blooming or wait until spring? Some of the blooms are hanging too low now.

Thanks,
Carol

I find that they root better in the Spring, but you can do it anytime. Most people don't want to mess with bloom season though. Smiling

My pictures are far from the quality you are used to but I take them for my records only. This is the only red I have blooming just now. Thor Carmen is listed in DG already. It is in the plant files.

The other reds I know of are Claudia, Dark Marie, Kris Kringle, Madeline and Zaraika.

Today S. truncata 'White Christmas' is just beginning to open its first bloom of the year.
She is one of my young stock plants and looks like she will have plenty of blooms.
White Christmas is an early bloomer.

I saw these at a local nursery today. I was there for something else but won't be surprised if I go back for one[?] next week. *Blush*

I saw a few large plants at a Sam's Club in Altoona, PA yesterday, but passed as they looked like one I already had.

Paul, did they have name tags or were they NOID? I am frustrated by the lack of ID on most of the Schlumbergera I come across, and I think this is a direct result of many of them having plant patents.

I went to the nursery to pick up some African Violets that I had ordered when I saw the Schlumbergera. I told myself that I was already spending to much on plants so resisted. If I follow my regular pattern I will probably go back next week and get some. In my mind if I spend $10 dollars on two occasions I feel less guilty than spending the $20 dollars at first. They did have ID tags but were a few days from open bloom and I will like to see them in full bloom to choose. I'm lucky to have 3 great full service nurseries in my area so don't have to rely on the big box stores all the time.

Sherry, that so annoys me about houseplants to, no name tags to tell you exactly what the plant is. all your big box stores do that, and almost any nursery I go to here in the valley has no name tag in the houseplants. Your luck if they even have a "how to take care of" tag. Very disappointing.

I thought I posted these yesterday, but I can not find them, so I will redo them today. Please, if I have duplicated them, forgive me. SENIOR MOMENTS sometimes happen at 83. Big Grin

The stores who just sell plants to make money and do not think about the needs of the person buying them, i.e. names, how to care for, etc. also seem to get the colors mixed up. There are two that are always being misnamed. The Orange Zygo and the Salmon. They are many times just marked ORANGE. I know because I bought them and found that to be the case. I was fortunate enough this year to have two blooming at the same time to show people the difference. Most of us certainly know the differnce but you would be surprised at the number of customers that do not. If it looks orange, it is orange or so they think. At least around here that is the case.

This is the Salmon Zygo. Soft and beautiful coloring..

This is the Orange Zygo, when in bud the color is really a beautiful bright orange
