Wow - who celebrates Occult Day Confused
Zuzu, I would have to wait another 21 years to see if I have any roses as good as your Voodoo.
Your choice for yesterday, 'Smoky' is my kind of rose - both great pics!

This is what I did this afternoon. Trying something new this year - over-wintering some of my pots outside. It is always such a hassle in spring when they start sprouting... Going to have to wait and see but I think they will be alright Crossing Fingers!

Porkpal, if you look at the other photos in the entry, you can see how the bloom changes color (fades) from a bright-orange blend to a coral-orange blend, but it stays quite beautiful in all stages.

Rose (Rosa 'Voodoo')

Sweet picture of your plants settled down for a winter's nap, Sharlene.

I don't know who celebrates Occult Day. Not I. I do come from a long line of superstitious women, however. My grandmother used various magic spells to cure warts, boils, and other ailments, and she used cards to tell fortunes, but she never did it on a Wednesday because she said the evil spirits were too close on that day and mustn't be given any opportunity to appear.

@sunnyvalley, Sharlene ...

I did something similar when I first moved up here. Of course, my zone is warmer than yours, but the house pad garden is at the base of a slope and cold air does flow down hill.

My theory was that it takes longer to freeze a larger mass than a smaller mass ... Shrug! I did make sure that I had a lot of bagged leaves around the perimeter of the clustered pots.

I had some die back, but no dead roses in spring. I hope you have the same results.

This is World Philosophy Day. The Rose of the Day is Novalis, named for the 18th-century philosopher of German romanticism.

My plumbing company sent me an email announcing that today was National Toilet Day(!) I think your choice is far more appropriate - and such a lovely representative!

Lovely roses Zuzu!
I especially like the colour on Gentle Persuasion! The colour reminds me a bit of the pics I've seen of Marilyn Monroe. Colour-wise is would have been a toss-up if GP was available here but I think, for me, MM wins on bloom form. I am very partial to the classic HT form Big Grin

I agree Gentle Persuasion is lovely! Hurray!

Thank you for posting all the wonderful Rose of the Day images, they really lift my mood now that my garden is all dark and gloomy. Thank You!

I wonder which Thanksgiving rose you'll choose Zuzu - my favourite out of the three was bred in 1962.

Wishing all of you over the pond a happy Thanksgiving Day!!!!

That is the one I'll be using, Sharlene. I used my other one (1965) for Canadian Thanksgiving last month.

Yesterday was a magical gardening day. I planted 11 roses right before the rain, which watered them in very nicely. Today the garden was rather soggy, so I stayed inside most of the day, but tomorrow will be a great day for pulling weeds.

Zuzu ...

You had mentioned you were going to dig up your miniatures and mini-floras and put them in containers. Have you done that yet ?

If you have, how deep were the anchor roots ?

The reason I am asking is that I moved one of mine last week and the roots went down three feet ! No joke. That plant had more roots than it did top growth even in lousy soil !

Thanks for letting me know, Zuzu. I was just curious. I have never seen a small rose with roots that deep before.

I guess I am getting pretty good at growing roots ... Big Grin
