Long before "freeze drying" anything became popular, my mom (in 1946) took a white rose from her wedding bouquet and dipped it in wax to preserve it. She had it in a fancy glass jar of some sort that was somehow hermetically sealed. It was in a curio cabinet in our house for years.
I have no clue what happened to it. One of my sister's probably has it.

Glad you were able to pop in briefly Zuzu to keep the Rose days going, life has been hectic and busy!
I don't celebrate the holidays but I just had a house full of friends leave this morning that had been here since Wednesday and I am exhausted! Lots of food and late nights playing a dice game and watching Gilmore Girls. nodding

I find it quite a coincidence that you selected Moore's 'Pinstripe' (1985) for todays rose after mentioning his rose 'Charlie Brown' (1996) yesterday - 'Pinstripe' is the pollen parent of 'Charlie Brown'. HMF has some really nice pics of both rose to make a comparison. I think they are quite similar.

Iam using my tablet for the first time .. Please forgive typos ..

Ralph created the first repeat blooming striped rose. All repeat blooming stripes are based on his work ... Kind of neat stuff

There is a rose called Charlie Brown, but we don't have any photos of it. The Rose of the Day, therefore, is Charlies Rose.

I love Peanuts! It was the first (of many) comics, I read as a child. We have had several dogs in the family named Snoopy after the famous Beagle. If you ever happen to stop by Mr. Schulz grave, please leave a rose for him from a devoted fan from Denmark. I tip my hat to you.

Got back from France to discover that one of our three Graham Thomas standard roses had broken mid-stem in a storm. It looks as though it hadn't been properly tied to the top of its stake. I'll have to replace it, though I'm afraid the new one won't be as tall or as full as the other two... Crying Sad Crying

Oh no Mika - breaks your heart doesn't it.
I just finished covering my standards today. All nicely attached to the stakes and now covered to the ground with vlies. Also checked the stakes while I was busy - sometimes they rot in the ground. I had to replace two. Expecting temps down to -4C tonight - brrr!!

Lyn that must be the same weather system that has parked over me in Vancouver this past week, aaargh!
I have the Charlie Brown stripy rose, in fact several of them. I'll submit a photo when I get home. Several years ago, I bought 4 or so pots of them, and each had multiple plants, and I think every one of them has survived in the yard.

Cindi ... It's a nice little rose. I really like it.

Greenheart is now selling it wholesale as 'Star Ruby'. Why in the world Greenheart decided to change the name on some of the most classic roses is beyond me, but they did.

Did you ever get your 'Sweet Chariot' ?

Believe it or not, SC was one of the few roses that escaped the deer chomp prune ... Big Grin

Lyn, I could really kick myself D'Oh! Got my planning all wrong. Yesterday, after covering the standards, I heaped my 'less winter-hardy' - all this under grey skies and with the wind howling around my ears, but I wanted to get it done!
This morning was a bit colder than expected, -6C, everything white with frost. But wow, what an amazing day! Sun the whole day and no wind! And even though it only went up to 2C it felt warm in comparison to yesterdays 3C! Can you believe it, other than a quick walk around, I stayed indoors. Nothing to do outside today. Should have paid better attention to the weather man!!!
Now, I am just waiting for the roses to drop the last of their leaves - my neighbors birch too Angry - and then it will be one last clean up for the season. Todays frost will help speed things up.

Sharlene ...

I still have to put down more winter mulch, but I am waiting for a couple more hard freeze nights. If I mulch too soon, I end up with critters making their winter nests in my mulch ... meh

Day temps are going to be a bit warmer for a few days, but night temps will be down to -3C this week and down to -5C next week. We should get out first snow next week. I don't think we will get enough to stick at my elevation.

I think I can finish mulching Friday and Saturday. We will have had enough cold nights that the critters will have found other places to nest.

It stopped raining long enough so that I got the deer fencing repaired ... Hurray! Many of the roses are well pruned and the deer hauled off the debris when they left the garden ... Smiling

One task I used to assign myself in late fall was assessing the health of each of the roses. I carried my clipboard and spreadsheet around the yard, giving numerical scores for size of the plant, number of good canes, amount of bloom this year and my guesstimate on winter survival. The laptop with the spreadsheet has gone into a coma and I don't feel like recreating the whole thing. I do wish I had all that data, though. The daughter who always helped me with the assessment is now making real money on more important spreadsheets. Lovey dubby
