Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!
Tim, you are so much fun.
Actually all of the ones you list are easy to keep under control. It is easy to just remove the parts you don't want. Big Grin

Tim please don't throw the plants away!! Don't you have neighbors, I'm sure they would want discards...I know it is my own pet peeve! Whistling

One thing that I've noticed about Heuffelii up here in the frozen tundra is that they tend to get shoved out of the ground with our freezing/thawing in spring. Sometimes that causes larger clumps to fall apart. That being said, they are still definitely worth it and I love em!

Here is a large clump of 'Mars'
Thumb of 2016-11-07/goldfinch4/354607

Another one of my favorites is 'Orange Tip'
Thumb of 2016-11-07/goldfinch4/43540f

Lynn, haven't seen 'Clown' before. What a beauty!!

Chris 'Clown' is a must have. The rosettes are very large, and it seems as though the mottled coloration is almost year round. Maybe 2 or 3 months during early spring they are more of a solid chestnut/pink with green leave bases. It is a new one from Fernwood from last years order.

Sure wish Howard was still shipping to the U.S. Sighing!

Chris... when do those go on sale? You don't seem to ever have any Jovis for sale. I suppose they are more difficult to make divisions. If you do want to sell those two keep me in mind. Big Grin

Lynn, I'll have to put that one on wish list.

Tim, I do sell them but they usually sell out fast. I'll keep you in mind for these two.

I am increasingly enjoying the Jovibarba/Heuffelii.

Do they never "bloom out" and die like an occasional semp might?

I had contemplated growing a whole patch devoted to them. It might look quite splendid. So I stopped thinking about it and started doing something about it. Here is my tentative Heuffelii patch with rocks in their final positions. There are some red ground-cover Spurium sedums which I expect to surround those two Agaves which will be planted somewhere just about there.

Thumb of 2017-02-10/tcstoehr/069ccd

My dream is that I will be able to look across some Sedum-adorned Agaves right into a patch of rocks mixed with Heuffelii clumps. Not a bad dream, whether I can pull it off is another question. Years in the making at best. I do like having things to look forward to... watching the year-to-year change... and having different things coming into their prime each season. Y'all know what I'm talking about.

Since there was some sunshine today I brought out my Heuffelii minis from the coldframe so they could get some actual direct sunshine. And maybe check out their future digs.

Tim you are going to love the heuffs. And a couple that get quite large are 'Apache' and 'Clown'. Both spectacular specimens in mature colonies. Then you add in other small and medium forms, what a garden that will be. I have been toying with the thought of putting all of my heuffs in the same bed, so I can see the differences in coloring and size growing in the identical conditions, like yours will.

Guess no one will be "leaving them" as it sounds like a sunny future in-ground-projects for all the heufelii the both of you own!!

And I forgot to answer Tim's question about blooming out.
I have never had an entire colony bloom and die.

Let's see now... they don't rot in the rain... they don't bloom-out... they don't require division... they don't spread wildly. I'm not sure now why I should be growing anything else. Hilarious!

I do have 'Apache' already. I'll be sure to give it some room. 'Clown' looks interesting.

Any other suggested "must haves"?

Julia, spring is a very good time. After things warm up and dry out a bit. Not during the heavy rain time.

I new you would come around to the heuffelii Tim, once you found out how wonderful they are.
You already have 'Bros' don't you?
Year round solid jade green 'Jade' and bonus of a lovely rosette shape

Lovely red coloring in the summer

And of course the gold ones like 'Goldbug', 'Xanthoheuff', 'Lemon Sky' and 'Orange Tip'. And what about all the new gold/yellow ones from Europe, the Cheese series? I would love to have all of them.

Great color and form in 'Limelight'.

And the small ones:

It seems like the gold/yellow ones stay on the small side also. At least for me.

Then there are the heuffs that have a velvety texture. I will have to go out and see which ones have that attribute, I can't remember right now. I know I have seedlings from 'Musketeer' that have velvety texture.

Hmmm... I do have 'Minuta'. But I should get 'Jade'. I've flip-flopped on 'Kapo' but didn't get it.
I doubt 'Limelight' is available over here. I'd love to get 'Cheese Fever'. I ordered some of the Cheese series in the euro buy but could not even get 'Cheese Whiz'.
