Val, good luck on your surgery! I hope you're running around in your garden a lot sooner than you think!

Coleen, nice seedlings! Sorry you got some mislabeled seeds but the begonia look nice & happy! I'm afraid you got some more wrong seeds. Those aren't sweet peas. Here's a pic of my sweet pea & it doesn't look like any of the seedlings in that pot.

I know it's an awful picture but it was taken under grow lights which always messes with my camera. I tried going outside but it was pouring rain.

So you have something large growing-maybe sunflowers?

Val, hope you have a speedy recovery and get back to your garden feeling much better.
Elena, thanks for letting me know those arn't sweet peas. I winter sewed some and they are up & don't look like them at all. I know they are not sunflowers. The seeds were alot like the desert bird of paradise, plus the plants look like the other two I posted. Oh well

Coleen I hope you don't get discouraged from doing seed swaps because of this! I have gotten seeds that were mislabeled from swaps before but never that bad. Usually it's just the wrong cultivar or the wild version versus one of the cultivated ones.

Here's hoping Crossing Fingers! you get something really unique that more than makes up for not getting the seeds you wanted!

Oh no Val, I've had way too much fun to give up on swapping. I am looking foreward to the next big swap. Is there one coming up soon? Lol, just kidding, I have wintersewn over 100 containers and that is more then enough to keep me busy for the summer. Rolling on the floor laughing

@agoo, when you messaged me about the seeds, I offered a replacement to make up for the error. I posted them as traded and that I hadn't grown them but they were labeled as African violets. The offer still stands for replacement seeds or I can send you an African violet plant to make it right. I would hate to see you not trade in the future because of a mislabeled packet. Please let me know if you have changed your mind and would like something else.

Lisa, I didn't mean to come off like I was complaining about getting some mislabled seeds. The begonias are great. I like to swap fare & square Smiling not get something without giving something equal back. There will be other swaps and you can count on me being a part of it. After all I now have a few more kinds of seeds to offer thanks to all the great number of seeds I got in that last big swap. So, appsolutly no unhappy or disatisfied gardener here. Group hug

@vma4922 Thank you for the product recommendation! I bought some and just got it. I have hydrogen peroxide but don't want to use it on my smaller plants. I'm gonna use the heck outta this stuff tonight.

@Agoo Fantastic seedlings! You got right on the growing, didn't you? Awesome!

I went out to the raised beds and found that someone's columbine (IiiiIIii dunno whose, I was kind of haphazardly strewing them everywhere when I "planted" them) has popped up! I'm very pleased with that. I didn't "sow" them all that carefully but it was the best I could do at the time and I wanted to get them out there so they can bloom ASAP. I love those guys, and they do so nicely in that mostly-shade spot.

I got my orders from Almost Eden and Burnt Ridge Nursery and I am so excited to fill in the garden again. This winter was so frickin' cold. I have no idea who actually survived all of it. My poor pineapple sage literally exploded, so I don't think I'll see him again. I'm also paranoid about my young grapevines that I only planted a year ago. I know they're meant to be perfectly tolerant of the cold in my zone, but I'll fret needlessly until I see buds. I thought they would be here by now! Tomorrow is APRIL! :O :D

Pardon me, I need to dance around like a loon, tomorrow is APRIL! YAY! TIME FOR ALL THE PLANTS!

Also you guys I'm going to have so many seeds to swap this year you don't even know. I went berserk on the Swallowtail Garden Seeds site. There's no way on god's green earth that I'm going to be able to fit all those things in my yard. I'm probably going to get containers and put those on my rock wall and really everywhere, but STILL. I've gotten a ton of butterfly host plant seeds, hoping to lure randy butterflies. Lovey dubby

@vma4922 Holy CARP you didn't mention that stuff smells like paint thinner. What the heck makes it smell so nasty?! Mixed it up last night and both hubby and I scooted back like two feet. WHOOF! I already see some reduction in bug activity, but ugh, I managed to somehow pick up something other than fungus gnats in one of my bomarea plants. I don't know what it is yet (tiny white worm does not narrow it down much) because they were writhing too energetically after I poured the stinky BT on them. I was afraid they'd jump on me, that's how acrobatic they were. Oh HAYUL no, there will be no tiny wriggly worms on ME just before bed!

That plant is going to get blasted with neem oil later if the BT doesn't do the trick with whatever is in there. Won't kill the predatory mites. NOTHING kills the predatory mites.

@DogsNDaylilies & @Agoo Ha, thanks. Agoo, your 'peeping tom' comment cracked me up. I'm imagining you lifting the lid on the milk jug and wiggling your eyebrows at the seedlings. How YOU doin'?

@Joolie, could those be pot worms? If so, they're harmless. They're commonly found in plant pots and worm bins, thus the name. Here's a short video. Please keep in mind that they're a lot smaller than they look here--note the red worms next to them to get an idea of their size. HTH!

@joannakat They could be! But I think I killed them dead (or at least drove them deep into the soil) between that Bt and soap.

OH SPEAKING OF THAT Bt -- it's Btk, not Bti. It's not the same stuff as the dunkers. It seems to have done something, though. So hooray!

Oh and I didn't see any video, was it a link or did you try to embed it?

Joolie,

Did you mix the BT with water? I try to avoid smelling what's in the bottle before I mix it with the water...but I didnt notice a smell. In the gal of water you add it to, it's diluted and shouldnt smell!? so strong. It's encouraging, however that you saw a reduction in activity so soon after application :D My infestation this year was "preventative". I have a few pots I think I overwatered and got a fungus gnat or two here and there, but last year I was infested, it was crazy. I'm also using mostly Pro Mix, which I think was a huge improvement.

What soap did you treat them with also?

Enjoying seeing everyone's seedlings. I'm growing inside mostly, so far, limited wintersowing only because I couldn't resist to do SOME.

Your seedlings look great! I know you are so excited. Chuck and I finished enlarging one of my front flower beds yesterday. I don't think I sowed enough seeds for it so I started another round last night. I'll update later when I can get on my desktop computer.

You are going to love swallowtail's seeds. They are my go to first site. I plant a lot of their things and have always been happy with them. And those butterflies will come. I bet you get tons of them.

No, the video is a little bit down on that page. There should be a triangle that you click to have it play. Pot worms are white, MUCH smaller than earthworms or red wrigglers, and they tend to move pretty fast. They are often mistaken for freshly hatched worms in worm bins (guilty party here--that's how I learned about them). They can actually be beneficial to your plants. Here's another little bit about them, with a video and a picture for you! http://lasvegasworms.com/pot-w... If you watch the video, you'll probably be able to tell whether yours are pot worms or not.
