I do wear boots (no steel) when digging and doing heavy work, but there's no way I could stand or jump on a shovel and balance long enough to dig in to our clay soil each time if I tried! Even in steel reinforced boots! (Wish I could though. ) That's when DH gets recruited and dragged out there by his ear! Hats off to you @76Terra !

Yeah, I've been hoping to find used ones on Amazon to save money, but no such luck. 🤷 The issue is that I know DH won't see the value in the expense, even though I do.

I saw something similar at True Value Hardware, a while back, so I'm going to check that out. Though!

I picked up a pair of boots at Costco I have been using them in the summer now. Last year, while wearing flip-flops, I slipped and broke my ankle. I won't do that anymore. As much as I like to be "casual" during the summer, I need to be cautious now that I'm 80!

UPDATE: My favorite pair of slogger boots gave out. There was a leak and must've been a hole or slit somewhere I never did find before they went in the trash. I'd say after 6 or possibly 7 years, they gave me my money's worth.

@janinilulu Is there any sort of soft material covering the inside of the upper part of the shoe? I looked at it, but it does not say. 🤷 I would think that wearing them without socks might rub the foot creating blisters.

They 'fuse' very soft plastic and cloth...it's NOT 2 separate pieces that ever pull apart...and the inside of the shoe is the material & is very comfortable. I very rarely use my clogs, but do go barefoot in the boots and haven't had an issue.
Wish I'd known about their recycling program before I trashed my chicken boots!

Wow, they're recyclable? I'm about sold!

Oh no Evelyn sorry to hear that. I had a similar experience..No fun..hope your ankle has healed OK.

Bea ~ Thank you. It has healed and I am walking again. Last year was a crazy year. I had a hip replacement, too, but I am back "in the garden" again! I'm a lot more cautious, too. Last year I got yellowjackets stings too. So far, this has been a much better year. The traps were put out earlier, so there are only a few flying around. I hope there are none by the time I get back in the garden. Even one can be dangerous.

Ginny ~ Thank you so much. I am doing much better physically. The garden has its challenges right now with ground squirrels and gophers. There always seems to be obstacles in the way of getting my gardens in order. And of course, it is summer, so then there is the heat. I would like to skip right into autumn. So I will continue to work slowly get it all in order. The tomatoes are doing great, they are growing like weeds and starting to flower, as I started them late this year. The daylilies are in bloom now and don't seem to mind the heat, as long as I keep them well-watered. Some other plants finished early, as the heat arrived early this year.
