[quote="tcstoehr"]A few summertime memories... And Winter hasn't officially even begun yet.
Ha, it surely IS winter here. Today's high was 3 degrees with a wind chill of -15. BIG FUN!
Oh, and we have a foot of snow everywhere with larger drifts.
Beautiful coloration on your semps, Melissa. I especially love the Borscht, El Toro, and Jungle fires. I'll have to look at mine. Things have been so busy I haven't even had a chance to look at them.
You did well with Borscht! It was my favorite from that batch of seedlings although I now think I like Patent Leather Shoes even better. This year I finally crossed them. Do have about 20 from Watermark King X Patent Leather Shoes that are VERY dark at the moment. We'll see how they look in the spring. I'm dreaming of one with the size and shape of Borscht, the waxy sheen and spring color of Patent Leather Shoes, and the color retention of Borscht. Of course I could end up with THE OPPOSITE too. Plant breeding is a little bit of a crap shoot. There must be 500 seeds from Patent Leather Shoes X Borscht though so barring any major growth/ varmint accident I'll get enough seedlings to get the perfect combination. Fingers crossed.

Kevin, when you talk like that you really get me jonesn' for your clinic. This is all so fascinating to me. I am busy collecting containers for the spring cause I have a feeling I am going to return from your clinic with many, many new plants. At least that is my plan. That Watermark King and Patent Leather Shoes cross makes my mouth water!!
Hi, my name is Melissa and I am a semp junkie!
The Borscht that I posted is indeed the one that you gave me this summer. I do have another Borscht that I got from Young's a couple of years ago. It is pretty but not the color that the new one has. Here is my old Borscht. Needs a little grooming.
Lynn, I think that Bronco has the best color of all my semps right now.
It was such fun having lunch with Bev and Lynn and their hubbies yesterday.
Time flied as we were there for 2 1/2 hours talking semps and occasional other subjects. I think we covered every topic!
Bev learned new word use for "the stew" too! As in "I crossed the stew out of that cultivar". I'll have to admit it is something from my childhood and I'm sure now was used in lieu of a less polite word. Thank you mom for putting this one in my head!
If you don't see me posting pictures for a week it's cuz I'm heading out for the holidays. I know it will be tough. But before I go here's a few.
'Urmina', 'Sopa' and 'Magnificum'
All the semps seem to have crispy leaves this year. Even the new arrivals. What gives?
'Gold Bug' and ... uh... 'Gold Bug' again.
'Crimsonette' is getting bitten by an unknown assailant. Notice the severed leaves. It's near my Sedum ??? 'Blue Spruce' which seems to be under siege as well. Yet no damage to the spiny Opuntia there.
This is H. 'Minutum' and I like its growth habit. Lynn, I think this is what you have growing large in a pot and that's why we couldn't find it in your garden.... maybe.
Urmina and Sopa looks the most interesting of the whole group. Glad I got Urmina from PO in early Fall but as always, yours always looks better than mine, TIm
Tim the heuffelii growing in the pot is a seedling, h. 'Minuta' is a much smaller heuffelii. Yours is really looking good.
I need to go out and check mine to see if there is any nibbling going on.
Too cold to go outside and check on anything. The low temps will be the High 20's for the next 3 evenings. Somebody gave me a paper succulent wreath to fold into 3-D. May have to resort to that to do anything gardening indoors...Wait I can edit my Noid photos...!!!
I hope that I actually will have some 'Aymon Correvon' seedlings this year. Have tried for years to get seed on these velvety greys with no luck. This year I had what looked to be viable seed. Fingers crossed. Think there could be interesting things in the next generation of montanum X wulfenii. I can envision a huge Waterlily form in grey velvet. Wouldn't that be cool?
