Recieved the 2011 fall collection from Pete Harry yesterday, the largest box of daylilies I have ever recieved from anyone. The 15 plants where all suppose to be double fans except Scarlett Blaze which should have been a single, it turned out to be a triple. The others were all three, four, five and six fans. I should have recieved 29 fans total, I recieved 52 fans, all blooming size.

They are now planted, the double fan in front is a replacement of April Smith I lost this year.

What an awesome order you got Fred. Do the hybridizers usually send bigger plants if you order a whole collection? I always pick and choose.

I've only ordered individual plants, never a collection, from some of the hybridizers, (Trimmers, Floyd Cove and Maryott's off the top of my head) and they usually send beautiful huge fans even of other hybridizers' daylilies -- and usually at least triples. Plus they send wonderful recent introductions as bonus plants, so I'm sold on purchasing from the hybridizers!

I ordered the fall collection because of the size of some of the blooms, (7" to 8.50"), I want to start working with some extra large flowers (over 7"). His last years collection had about seven extra large and I also have kept them. I want to incorporate some of that stuff into my seedlings next year to get something bigger than 5-5.50 inches. I chose his flowers because of the tight ruffling, these will not have a tendency to hang up like the big looping ruffles. This is one of the reasons I love HAPPY HAPPY I still think it's the most perfect eye and edge daylily ever and I will put some of these extra large on my HAPPY HAPPY seedlings.

Hahahahaha....my sneaky kids will teach me everything they know first..... And the movies, I am watching every movie I can find to get tips for sneaking....

Fred, I think you are correct about the light ruffling instead of the heavy ruffling. I don't have many with ruffling, but one of mine did hang up on a couple of blooms this past summer. What good is it, if it doesn't open well? I hadn't thought of light vs heavy ruffling, and it makes a lot of sense. See I learn something every day!

I also admit, I am a sucker for large flowers, can't wait to see some future seedlings ~Jan
