Wonder Of It All has not bloomed for me yet. I am so disappointed to hear it hangs. Does it tend to pass that on??

Steph - Rudy has a lot of fire wood....and i am sure he is looking out the window at the snow with a hot cup of coffee in his hand...
WOIA dosen't hang on rebloom for me it opens well...I have a few seedlings some hang some don't.......so you will need a long cross to recover a few good seedlings.

This is a cross of ELAQUANT CAY X WONDER OF IT ALL ...You have seen this seedling posted by Rudy it is seedling 9038 in its last year in the cold country this seedling don't hang even on cool mornings it opens well

Now those don't look like they hand at all, no torn petals or damage to the petals. Makes me feel better about WOIA. I remember those being posted earlier and are so nice. Isn't it interesting though from your warm climate to Rudy's cooler the difference in bloom. I am sure some of it is lighting and camera, but even then they look like different plants. I am going to have to find somewhere to send mine to trial in warmer climate soon.

Jan - This year I will be test growing a lot more seedlings in Northern Arizona (Rudy2's garden) and also some registered daylilies to see how well they can survive cold winters, not many do this. I will be posting both gardens this coming spring.

The seedlings are started in the southern garden then transferred to the north in time to settle and go thru the winter and bloom the following spring...

This is the seedling shown above #9038

Steph - I hope to bloom out some seedlings from that one this coming spring,

Cindy- As you can see my test garden can hand out some pretty tuff conditions and even worse is when the snow melts and the wind blows..

I'd like to live in Phoenix and be able to visit the northern gardens. I guess if it's 110 outside, all that snow makes you wish you were there. Lyle do you have pictures that show the northern gardens in summer and yours when it's so very hot? How far is it between the two?

Your photos sure are great. Mona

We had snow showers yesterday, it is 23 degrees this morning. My seedlings are outside covered in a layer of leaves. It will be interesting to see how many survive the winter.

Great contrasts Lyle, I knew you had a northern garden, it is great that you do this, to see which ones survive. Love the photos ~Jan

We have a chance of flurries tomorrow. We're having totally wierd weather again for December. I'm beginning to believe that we may have a very nasty winter. I hope you folks up North don't have it bad. Supposed to be 25 Thursday night with the highs in the 50s. This is typical for us. We just don't usually get any snow.

Your seedlings should be fine as long as the leaves aren't packed down really tight. They need some air so they won't rot. Let me tell you my dirty secret. I've had tiny seedlings in 16oz red ups for about 5 years. Yeap, 5 years. They are outside and have been since they were about a month old. It's some of those that I planted just because I had them and I really don't want them. I'm always going to get them potted up into bigger pots but it's one of those things that I never get around to it. Makes me feel guilty, but not enough to go out there and do it. They have survived 110 to -15 days and nights. So they are tuff! I guess I've got about 20 cups of them. Probably started out with 30, a few died of lack of water in the first summer but the rest have really gotten tuff. It's amazing that they are about 5" in size and have stayed that size for 5 years!!!! I did pot up a few early this year and now these are full grown plants. I guess they adapt their size to the size pot they must live in.

Blessings to all and stay warm, Mona

It sounds like our cold front is heading east only one more day of cold and back to normal for this time of year. The garden up north had - 6 this morning but the good news is there is about 18" of snow on the ground.

Results from the northern garden can be seen here:

Well, I sure hate to disappoint anyone, but it's supposed to be really COLD here tonight in Bakersfield -- 32 last night and 27 tonight, then slowly creeping back up to the mid 30's the rest of the week. We hardly ever get down to 32 here and usually that doesn't start until around Christmas, so this is unusual for us -- and I expect it will work its way eastward. Hope it doesn't come your way!
