I had to shovel snow last year. I was exhausted. Sad Please don't do too much at one time Jo ann, you might need your back for something else later. Thumbs up

Forget the back, worry about your heart. Snow shoveling is very stressful on the heart, and lots of people have heart attacks when shoveling snow. The physical exertion plus cold temps constricting blood vessels is not a good thing. That activity is for healthy, fit, young people, not those of us at the other end of the age spectrum.

Yay! How fun!

I'll be digging and planting tomorrow. I hope it's as nice then as it was today....a bit cold, but sunny. Smiling ...can't complain.

62 that sounds nice. The snow does get harder to remove each year. The ones that are 2 to 3 feet are killer.

I lost a number of Empress Wu a couple of years ago, they didn't overwinter in pots, unfortunately. Still stinging over that one.... I was so excited!

Well, bummer, Jo Ann. It's sooo frustrating when those things happen.

I planted some bulbs for one of the tiny daffodils around in a few places and the next day saw that there had been digging. I just mashed it all back down with my foot and hope for the best. Sad

65º today here. Goodness. Guess I'll go back out and plant my big Crinum bulb. I do hope Feb isn't as bad as Jan has been good.

I'm sorry to hear that! Is that a common thing for you? I never had a squirrel did anything up except a few crocus. The second time I planted them I dropped a moth ball in each hole along with the bulb and did not have any problem. Try moth balls, they work because the squirrels do not like the smell. If I could just keep them off my bird feeder. Hilarious!

Morning, Susan. It's common for me because we back up to woods. Lots of critters. However, I usually sprinkle new holes with cinnamon or ground chili pepper or garlic powder and don't have a problem. I've had them toss moth balls aside once they dig them up. Once the ground has settled and bulbs established, no problem. They are just lazy and like to take advantage of already dug dirt. Green Grin! But when you back up to woods, it's nearly impossible to control all the critters. I just live with it because I love my woods!

I have a bird feeder that closes the ports when anything heavy jumps on it. The birds can feed just fine but the squirrels can't. Perhaps try one of those.

Its just easier to ajust my attitude toward my garden. I dont buy rare hybrids or first year introductions so I dont get warpped if there is a tradgity.
The bulb digging is a nuiscence. The shallow bulbs like anemone are moved and eaten all the time so this was the last time I will plant them'
I found a mini daff bulb and happened to have my spade with me so I just replanted it.

I agree, Jo Ann. If I were to worry about every little dug up plant, I'd never make it here. In fact, I think another suet cage was taken down and carried away last evening. Even before dark this time. I wondered what the neighbor's dog was barking at so hard. The raccoons are getting brazen around here! All my things I would worry about go in the front yard. It's fairly safe ... fairly. Green Grin!
