Mine are sparse-looking, they aren't a nice close mat like those are. Difficult to weed without pulling them out too. Their site has afternoon shade - I wonder if that's the problem.

They're in a bed that's raised with rocks to about 2 feet higher than the actual yard. My one and only claim to an *almost* rock garden. So, it's probably due to the late afternoon shade of the white birch....or by my pulling bits of it out by mistake.

Susan, those asters are the wild kind and usually top out at 5 or 6 ft. The butterfly appeal in September is magnificent.
