Mine are sparse-looking, they aren't a nice close mat like those are. Difficult to weed without pulling them out too. Their site has afternoon shade - I wonder if that's the problem.

It might be. They do prefer full sun and soil that is not wet. Excellent drainage is a must.

Thanks, Tee.

They're in a bed that's raised with rocks to about 2 feet higher than the actual yard. My one and only claim to an *almost* rock garden. Big Grin So, it's probably due to the late afternoon shade of the white birch....or by my pulling bits of it out by mistake. Rolling my eyes.

Sounds like perfect drainage for them. That pulling them out by mistake could do it.

*Blush* I do try to tuck them right back in...poor things probably spend most of their energy getting re-established.

I guess my idea is a bust. Too much shade.

The tree is lovely. Since they bloom in the Spring, it might be okay. Given the tree isn't leafed out too much.

Susan, Blood Tiger is the correct designation for the lily I inadvertently called Blood Queen. J.

tee, yes, I believe so (L. Pardalinum var. giganteum).
Susan, those asters are the wild kind and usually top out at 5 or 6 ft. The butterfly appeal in September is magnificent.
