I looked at Mamajack's at the link above. Sheryl had been trying to drum up enough interest for a Hellebore co-op over there, but that didn't materialize. So maybe Mamaj got some extras or something later in another co-op? I never could find them. Confused

Susan, if you just want some to try, give me a holler in the spring. I always have a ton of babies around my Lady series. They will be variable, but all pretty. I'd love to send you a few seedlings. Of course then you'll be hooked.

THANKS POLLYK I'll give ya a holler! I tip my hat to you.

If you want to check some nice ones look up The Northwest Garden Nursery . They produce the Winter Jewel Series. They have been my favorites.

Will these work here in NORTH florida? (panhandle) My yard looks so sad after the kids get religated to the GH. For the first time I actually got some pansies this year. I grew up in Philly, so it's still strange to me to see them for sale this time of year.

Yes, Mamajack had some in a previous co-op with Walters Gardens. I got some and they were really nice. I think it was around April or May 2011

Pine Knot is a really nice place to get them from also, along with Bob's suggestion of Northwest.

Gingin, I don't know the answer to your question. If no one can help you here I know Judith at Pine Knot could. Very nice lady.

Susan, just let me know in the spring, K?

You're welcome. I started my love of hellebores when I got an email from Barry Glick for 100 seedlings for 100.00. They were quite new to the industry then. They came in a tiny package, all of them with a rubber band around the group. It would have fit in a coffee cup. I thought oh, boy. Barry said hold them by the leaves, and not the meristem and they will be easy to plant. I planted them and every single one lived. That's how easy they are to grow.

Wow, I never knew there was a "Christmas rose" and a "Lenten Rose" and a different bloom time. What a great surprise! Thanks, Bob and Polly!

Barry has some great species Hellebores. I *wish* they were still a buck apiece!

I would definitely c- or tree-mail Barb/mamajack. Especially if she is overwintering them, she'll be able to send you some great plants. I ended up with about 6 of her hellebores. I'm sorry, Tee - I wish I would have known that you couldn't find the co-op.

Ginger most Hellebores are rated zones 5-8 so I would think you would be ok. They are pretty drought tolerant once established. They are sold as shade plants but by me seem to do much better with a good amount of sun. I have one in my full sun garden for about 10 years now and it does great. By you I guess I would give them more shade. I'm glade that they finally seem to be catching on, even Lowes sells some in the early spring now.

Oh dear.... I worked on a co-op with him. Barry would undoubtedly do a co-op. He's just rrreaaaalllly tough to do the money stuff with - he wouldn't do Paypal, he wouldn't do checks; it had to be in cash.

On the flip side, he even went back a year later to try and make sure everyone got what they had paid for, despite there being some real problems with how the co-op was run. He's a good guy, and very forgiving.
In the end, only kindness matters.

...and I'm still planting anyway. Someone sent me 30 great big beautiful daffodil bulbs. I'm also planting a forsythia branch that broke off ... I stuck it in my rooting bucket and it took right off rooting ... also have a couple of roses and a Rose of Sharon that have rooted in the bucket the same way. Sheesh, planting on Christmas day ... who'd a thunk it??? But it will be in the mid-50s here today and the warmer weather is supposed to continue for quite awhile. Green Grin!

Sheryl, was it a hellebore co-op on DG? And how did I miss that one. Yes, Barry is eccentric.

The 'Winter Jewels' on the Northwest Garden Nursery site look very nice, but they are sold out until 2012. I may have to order some of then. Force myself. Hilarious! Whistling Green Grin!
