Janet is the bomb! She's a walking plant encyclopedia. Amazing.

I follow that forum pretty regularly. Not because I have anything to add, I just like seeing the experts at work. I lurk there.

tarev said:I finally had the chance to bring my camera along as I head for my walk yesterday. Our winters are mild, and this year too mild that it feels more like spring than winter. I took photos of these plants with its fully loaded berries, they grow along the walkway bordering the dry creek canal. It does add that very vivid red color that enlivens the doldrums of winter.

I was able to add the Lilac vine to the database, but I am hesitant to add the others for now, coz looking into the database there seems to be a lot of different variants..I do not know where to put them in.

Is #2 a Spicebush? I was just looking at one on another thread and thought it had strong resemblances.

I took my husband to doctor few days ago and saw something I have never seen before, It was a beautiful gold, variegated, wintergreen, grass-like plant. I looked it up when I got home and found it was called 'Bowles Golden Sedge carex elata 'Aurea', In picture the landscaper is using this plant as an annual for winter color along with Pansies!

If left in the ground these will get two feet high and wide.

They probably will, Sad I think I will look them up in phone-book and just ask if they could hold on to a few. They are listed as part sun/light shade, but actually need almost full sun to get that gold color. These get sun all day till around 4.00 and that's when the sun goes behind the building. Thumbs up
