@SL_gardener Scott
how is your P. chengii Hunan doing ? Bob & i both also got some and they are great
Thank you for the info

SL_gardener said:I've trialed a bunch of podophyllums over the years. Kaleidoscope & Spotty Dotty haven't been very vigorous for me. But P. pleianthum is a beast. And of course I have several native stands of P peltatum scattered about my woodland yard. I just acquired a new podophyllum from Japan over this winter, P. chengii Hunan. I know nothing about it but thought I'd give it a try. I just planted it about a month ago, so obviously too soon to tell, but initial impression is nice variegation. I'm interested to know if you've run across it? I know the taxonomy is a mess, so not sure if it's synonymous with another.

today was a day for gathering more pollen and the Kaleidoscope has jumped up to the top and has a lot of it
i gathered pollen from Kaleidoscope, Imperial sunrise, Red Panda, and one Spotty Dotty was ready
Thumb of 2020-04-15/Strever/3aa6f5

i pollinated most of them with the Kaleidoscope, and with so many different ones i had to make tags Smiling

I'm not sure if you can but when I cross sempervivum I put a paper bag over the blooms so the bees don't take the pollen. Amazing how fluffy it is when you do that.

One of my Spotty Dotty's from last year came up but we have had snow and ice 3 times since it started to emerge so I hope it will be ok.
Wish they had more of the Red Panda group and also liked Podophyllum 'Strong Silent Type' and Navage Clone .

Light or dark I hope mine starts showing some pattern. How much light do your plants get? Maybe mine are getting too much with the grow light left on all day for the Veg. starts.

i don't think light makes that much difference
more their DNA and how old they are
the ones i'm working with are in the Greenhouse getting light all day
and the ones in the garden under the Redwoods look the same
here are the Spotty Dottys under the Redwoods
