What do the flowers of your semps look like?

Janice, I'm adding a photo to your post, so it will be easy to see in the list of threads. : )

Thanks, Lynn, that is a pretty one.

It depends on the semp. Some are more pink than others.
here's some from S. funckii that are pretty typical:

Appollonia is different - both the shape and color. Nice! Is pittonii white, or more of a yellow color?

I wish I would have taken another photo of Appollonia when all the blooms opened. It was spectacular.

Pittonii was white with the middle section of each leaf a pale yellow/green. It was very pretty. I found it interesting to see the heavy cilia lining the edges of the petals.

I really need to learn how to use the new macro lens my son gave me this month. I can't wait to see better detail on the semp blooms. Same with the seeds. I want to see close ups of the seeds. Hurray!

Thank you Chris.
Have you ever seen a sempervivum seed up close? I would love to see that.
I have some I harvested this fall, I put them in a jar. Maybe when I get back home I will hunt the jar up and see if I can distinguish the seeds from the chaff and take a photo of them.

It sure is fun the see the differences between the blooms of different varieties.
I can't post any more photos until I get back home.

So glad you started this thread Janice. Group hug

Won't be long before we will be sending semps to new homes.
We should all make an effort to photograph all our semp blooms. I think it would be such a great feature of the Sempervivum entries in ATP plant database. Hurray!

Seeds also. Anyone have photos of seeds?

Oops! Did Lynn mistake you for me! I need a new camera so that I can take good close ups of semps. Any recommendations anyone? Right now I am using a simple point and shoot without a macro lense or tripod.

How much do you want to spend on a Camera? I love my Canon Rebel Xti which is a digital SLR.

I've got my trade list up on Cubits, along with a bunch of other people. I hope more people put up their trade lists.

Yes, Lynn, I posted a photo of semp seeds to the database awhile ago.

They are of mixed seeds, posted under the general Semp listing.

Actually I sowed those and have little noid babies. I will take some pics.

First try a tripod Sandi. I can't believe how much difference it makes. Twit finally convinced me to do that.
I love my Nikon D40. Both Canon and Nikon cameras are wonderful.

Janice I went and found the seed photo. Hurray! Great photo. Boy they are really tiny. Now I will know what to look for in all that debris in the jar.

You should start a thread for Sempervivum seedlings. Thumbs up

Lynn, don't think I can take credit for the tripod idea. do think I mentioned the macro function that steadies shots - always use it with my camera. Also have macro functions for closeups, good thing to make sure your camera has before buying.
