Huh, I've never bought from her. But she has a good reputation and is a watchdog top 5.

Agastache seeds will come up when it warms up. I brought mine in and put under a light. They came up the next two days. I bet it's not warm enough there yet.

Um, they're sitting on a heat mat. But like I said, I'm willing to give it a little more time before I fuss at her. Some of my other seeds are taking their sweet time sprouting, too. Ha, maybe they're trying to tell me something. Hilarious! She was very nice and sent more daylily seeds than were actually supposed to be in the order.

Agastache can be slow to sprout. I'll bet more will germinate in time.

I quit deadheading my Agastaches around late August or first of September. I want to make sure they make it through the Winter.

I don't collect seeds for that reason. Also, I've learned to wait well into Spring before cutting back the old plant stuff, because of unexpected late Spring freezes/frosts.

When I grew Golden Jubilee, I had a lot of new plants coming up all over where I planted it and now if I plant it, I make sure it doesn't go to seed. Love it for the color of the leaves!

Here's my 'Golden Jubilee' with Echinacea 'PowWow Wild Berry'. These really make each other pop when planted together.

I've tried to grow coneflowers like 3 times now & can never get them to grow. What am I doing wrong? I figure that if I can get roses to grow, I should be able to get them to grow...?

Toni, do you mean that you have trouble growing them from seed, or getting store-bought plants to survive in the garden?

Some folks do have trouble germinating the seeds. They might not be the easiest seeds to grow, but not all that hard, either.

In the garden, they like sun, probably 5 or 6 hours a day for good flowering. They also need good drainage. Winter wet with clay soil might require some soil amending for them to thrive. Other than that, the plain old purple coneflowers are pretty tough and long-lived. But many of the newer cultivars have proved to be short-lived for lots of us. Most don't seem to be as tough as the old purple.

Karen - Store-bought cone flowers. I can't grow anything from seed except weeds. I've tried the purple cone flowers, a green coneflower, and "Tomato Soup" coneflower.. each all croaked. I put them in full sun intermixed with my roses. I figured that if my roses are thriving, they should too. Shrug! Shrug! Shrug!

That's why they croaked. The ones you bought aren't dependable at all. This PowWow Wild Berry variety is great. I've had it for three years. It's a shorter variety with intense bloom color. Try some of these and you should have better luck.

I meant the green one and Tomato Soup. Sorry. It has to be something with the soil or watering. The purple ones should grow most places.

That's the way it works with me. Things that aren't supposed to grow here I can grow no problems (zone 7 roses in a zone 5 climate). Things that supposed to be unkillable? They croak within minutes it seems like. I think, also, that every time I get coneflowers in the past, it's always at the one nursery that I have found, through trial & error, I have 50% luck with. They grow their plants in a hydronutrient environment and when you get the plant, they're HUGE, but their root system is soooooo bunched up at the bottom from the way they're grown. I think I'll look for HardyBoy plants next time.. I have good luck with them.

My Golden Jubilee was very dark this year, not golden at all. Of course, it gets only about half-sun, so I am going to move it this year to someplace else. It's never volunteered any seedlings, though. Wonder why.

I never heard of Hardy Boy; had to look that up. Do you always buy organic plants? Maybe you'd have better luck with plants grown non-organically? High test nutrients do have their good points.

While I try to maintain my garden without the strong ferts, and without pesticides, I do use those things on my seeds and seedlings in containers. All containers in fact. It can be very hard to grow them without.

My Golden Jubilee is always yellow-ish. I think it needs a lot of sun to get that color.

Karen - HardyBoy is a local grower here for the rocky mountain area. http://www.hardyboyplant.com/i... I don't really care about organics.. I don't find them to be any better growers than conventionally grown plants. I use MiracleGro, which everyone boo's & hisses about. But it works for me, so that's what I use.

Clint - That's what I was worried about.. not enough sun to give it the yellowy glow. It'll have to be moved, which is kind of a shame 'cuz it's lived in the same spot now for 3 years w/o hardly any care at all and grows about 4' and has the most prettiest light blue flowers. But with the dark dark leaves, kinda boring.
