the pow wow's are seed started varieties, right clint? i wonder if the other seed started cones would work for skie as well? the new one cheyenne spirit might be better than the magic box type.

i know this is an agastache thread but skie did bring coneflowers up. Big Grin

Not all seed varieties of coneflowers are created equal. The Pow Wow is a newer strain though, which most people seem to find very hardy and reliable. Many of the other, newer echs just don't seem as tough and reliable as the old purple coneflowers. The Cheyenne Spirit hasn't been around long enough to get a good test yet.

Cheyenne Spirit is good. If you have any of the Sombrero plants they were selected from Cheyenne Spirit. PowWow Wild Berry is perfect. It grows shorter and has many blooms. These varieties are impressing me more and more every year.

so I don't know anything about this plant. It reseeds, but does that mean the plant dies after it drops seeds? Or does the original plant still come up every year and does it flower its first year?

Frilly - Mine doesn't reseed itself, but it is a perennial. And it does flower the first year.

I agree nodding

Here's one of my pics. Love the leaf color!

And so you can see all the details regarding the plant, I've included the link to the database. There's a lot more photos there of it.

I do cut flowers for market and Golden Jubilee foliage is a mainstay for bouquets. Mine usually reseeds well but not so much last year so I may be in short supply, but then I may still find some new babies popping up a bit later.
